Business Development Manager

Location: Central Belt of Scotland — Edinburgh, Glasgow, Livingston or Fife (field-based, with regional travel)

Type: Full-time, permanent

Salary: Competitive

Reporting to: Commercial Director

About Quensh

Quensh is a Scottish-independent specialist in Health, Safety, Environmental, Quality (HSEQ) and HR consultancy. Quensh give SMEs the kind of hands-on, expert support the national volume providers cannot; real specialists, genuine relationships, and advice tailored to each client rather than a call-centre script.

With a strong base in the North East of Scotland, we are now accelerating growth in the Central Belt. This is a growth role at the heart of that plan: an opportunity to build a region, shape a pipeline, and be recognised for it.

The Role

We are looking for a Business Development Manager to grow our presence across the Central Belt, with a particular focus on SMEs in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Livingston and Fife. Your role is to open doors, build lasting relationships, and convert them into long-term clients for our HSEQ and HR services.

This is a role for a self-starter with an existing network. From day one, we would expect you to be arranging meetings, working your contacts, and getting Quensh in front of the right people in the region you know best.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

What you'll do:

  • Develop and grow the Central Belt pipeline, targeting predominantly SMEs across sectors including food and drink, manufacturing, engineering, fabrication, construction and energy.
  • Use your existing network to generate warm introductions and book meetings from the outset.
  • Build and nurture long-term relationships with prospects and clients. The goal is durable partnerships, not one-off wins.
  • Sell Quensh's professional services: HSEQ and HR support.
  • Represent Quensh at industry events, networking opportunities and client meetings across the region.
  • Work closely with our technical and commercial teams to convert opportunities into signed business.
  • Keep the pipeline organised and visible, tracking activity and progress through to conversion.

What we're looking for:

Essential:

  • A proven track record in business development / new business sales, with the ability to open doors and close.
  • An existing network in, and genuine familiarity with, at least one of our target regions (Edinburgh, Glasgow, Livingston or Fife), and the ability to arrange meetings from day one.
  • A relationship-led approach: someone who builds trust and develops accounts over time, especially with SMEs.
  • Self-motivated, credible and comfortable working autonomously in a field-based role.

Preferred / ideal:

  • Experience in or selling into food and drink, or manufacturing, engineering, fabrication or similar industrial sectors.
  • Experience selling a professional service (not just products), where the sale is built on expertise and trust rather than a catalogue.
  • Experience selling HSEQ (health and safety) and/or HR services, or a closely related professional/compliance offering.

Desirable:

  • Familiarity with HubSpot or other CRM experience - helpful, but not essential.

Why Quensh

  • A genuine growth mandate - this is about building something, not maintaining it.
  • Independent and Scottish, with real specialists behind you rather than a scripted service.
  • The autonomy to run your region your way, with the backing of an established, respected business.
