Stearn Nottingham is a national super distributor to the electrical trade. The company operates a strong UK-wide network of 12 businesses, providing comprehensive stock replenishment, same-day collections, and next-day delivery for electrical requirements. With relationships built on over 185 leading manufacturers, Stearn Nottingham supports a developing electrical market through reliable supply, competitive pricing, and extensive product ranges.

Role Description

The Business Development Manager is a full-time role based from our Nottingham warehouse. This position focuses on growing sales across several sectors and specialist markets by identifying new business opportunities, nurturing existing customer relationships, and expanding the company’s market presence.

Day-to-day responsibilities include:

  • Visiting customers
  • Presenting Stearn Nottingham’s product range and catalogues
  • Preparing quotations
  • Negotiating pricing and commercial terms
  • Following up on leads generated through internal and external channels

The Business Development Manager will work closely with internal teams, including sales, marketing, and operations, to ensure smooth order fulfillment, high service levels, and consistent communication with key accounts.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in business development, field sales, or account management, preferably within the electrical wholesale, distribution, or related industrial sectors.
  • Strong skills in relationship building, stakeholder management, and customer service to develop and maintain long-term client partnerships.
  • Ability to identify opportunities, build pipelines, and achieve or exceed sales targets through structured planning and follow-up.
  • Comfort with presenting product ranges, pricing structures, and catalogues to groups and individuals, with confident communication and negotiation abilities.
  • Solid commercial awareness, including understanding of margin, pricing, and competitive positioning in a distribution environment.
  • Good organizational, time management, and territory planning skills, with the ability to manage multiple accounts and priorities on-site.
  • Competence in using CRM systems and basic office software (e.g., email, spreadsheets, presentations) to track activity and report performance.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel regularly within our surrounding regions for customer visits.
  • Desirable: Knowledge of electrical products, components, or lighting
