About The Role

The Business Development Manager will manage and grow an existing customer portfolio while identifying opportunities to increase sales across the full product range. The role combines strong account management with a proactive, commercial approach to maximise customer value and business growth.

The role holder builds trusted customer relationships, understands customer needs, and recommends solutions that deliver measurable value. They actively identify growth opportunities, achieve sales targets, and maintain an accurate sales pipeline using CRM systems.

Success requires proven experience in account management or sales, strong commercial awareness, and excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills. The ability to prioritise, influence decision-makers, and manage multiple accounts effectively is essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and develop a portfolio of existing customer accounts to maximise retention, satisfaction, and revenue growth.
  • Build strong, trusted relationships with customers through regular, proactive engagement.
  • Identify upselling, cross-selling, and new business opportunities across the full product portfolio.
  • Understand customer objectives and provide tailored solutions that deliver measurable value.
  • Achieve and exceed individual sales, revenue, and growth targets.
  • Maintain an accurate sales pipeline and customer records using CRM systems.
  • Analyse customer data, market trends, and buying patterns to identify growth opportunities.
  • Negotiate and present value-based commercial proposals to key decision-makers.
  • Work closely with Sales Support to ensure customer orders are processed accurately, efficiently, and delivered on time.
  • Coordinate with internal teams to resolve product, delivery, installation, or service issues, ensuring timely resolution and a positive customer experience.
  • Provide customers with accurate product, pricing, and technical information to support informed purchasing decisions.
  • Collaborate across sales, customer service, operations, and other business functions to deliver a seamless end-to-end customer experience.
  • Resolve customer queries and issues promptly, maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction, loyalty, and retention.
  • Keep up to date with product knowledge, market developments, competitor activity, and industry trends to effectively advise customers and identify sales opportunities.
  • Ensure all customer interactions are conducted with professionalism, integrity, and compliance with company policies and procedures.

Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience in account management, business development, or sales, with a consistent track record of achieving or exceeding sales and revenue targets.
  • Strong relationship management skills, with the ability to build credibility, influence decision-makers, and develop long-term customer partnerships.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills, with the ability to articulate value propositions and tailor solutions to meet customer needs.
  • Commercially astute, with the ability to identify growth opportunities, cross-sell and upsell products, and convert opportunities into sustainable revenue.
  • Strong customer focus, demonstrating the ability to understand customer objectives, manage expectations, and deliver high levels of service and satisfaction.
  • Experience using CRM systems to manage customer accounts, sales pipelines, forecasting, and reporting, ensuring accurate and timely record management.
  • Ability to analyse customer data, market trends, and sales performance to identify opportunities, support decision-making, and drive account growth.
  • Well-developed planning, organisational, and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and maintain focus in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word, to support reporting, presentations, and customer engagement.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to resolve customer issues effectively while maintaining positive relationships and commercial outcomes.
