About Pickerings Hire

Pickerings Hire is one of the UK's leading providers of modular building solutions. For more than 50 years, we have delivered high-quality accommodation across the construction, education, healthcare, commercial and industrial sectors.

Building on our expertise in temporary accommodation, we are expanding our compliant modular building offering and are seeking ambitious Business Development Managers to drive growth in this key area. We are recruiting for two positions covering the East Midlands and South-East.

The Role

As Business Development Manager, you will identify, develop and secure new opportunities for compliant modular building solutions across a range of sectors.

You will build relationships with developers, contractors, education providers, healthcare organisations, local authorities and commercial businesses, engaging key decision-makers early to influence projects, specifications and procurement.

Working closely with our Design, Estimating and Project Delivery teams, you will develop commercially competitive solutions that meet customer requirements and deliver value.

Your Responsibilities Will Include

  • Identifying and securing new business opportunities.
  • Building relationships with architects, consultants, developers, contractors, local authorities and end users.
  • Generating opportunities through networking, market intelligence and proactive business development.
  • Engaging early in the project lifecycle to influence specifications and position Pickerings Hire as the preferred partner.
  • Preparing and presenting proposals, quotations and tender submissions.
  • Managing opportunities from initial enquiry through to contract award and handover.
  • Maintaining an accurate sales pipeline and delivering agreed sales and profitability targets.
  • Representing Pickerings Hire at industry events, exhibitions and customer meetings.

About You

We are looking for a motivated business development professional with experience selling compliant modular buildings, MMC solutions or related construction products.

You Will Have

  • A proven track record of winning new business and delivering sustainable growth.
  • Strong commercial, negotiation and influencing skills.
  • Experience working with developers, contractors, architects, consultants and public sector organisations.
  • A good understanding of the construction project lifecycle and procurement routes.
  • Strong presentation and proposal-writing skills.
  • A proactive, consultative approach to business development.
  • A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel nationally. Ideally, you will be based centrally within your geographic area.
