About Us

We're proud to be part of STARK Building Materials UK and dedicated to providing top-quality products and exceptional service to our customers. We're a friendly and collaborative team, passionate about what we do and committed to doing it well.

The Opportunity

We're looking for two Business Development Managers, Renewables and Electrification, to join us. One based in the Home Counties/Central England, and one based in the North of England. Opportunities like this do not come up often. STARK Building Materials UK is a 600-plus branch national business, and it is building a renewables and electrification centre of excellence inside JPS, its social housing specialist. Not a bolt-on product range. A centre of excellence: the single home of renewables capability, strategy, supplier relationships and sales expertise for the business, with its own pipeline, its own team, executive sponsorship, and a multi-year growth plan behind it.

The build starts in JPS and social housing, the strongest funded demand channel in the market. In time, this centre of excellence is intended to support renewables activity across the wider STARK UK business. Which means the role you would be joining is not a fixed box on an org chart. It is the starting point of something designed to grow, and the people in at the start grow with it.

You would be one of the first dedicated hires. That means you help decide how this category sells, which accounts it wins first, and what it becomes, and your fingerprints stay on it as it scales. Most salespeople spend a career working inside categories someone else built. This is the chance to be there when one gets built, with the balance sheet, credit capability and national infrastructure of one of the UK's largest building materials businesses behind you.

If you want a settled desk and a mature account base to inherit, this is not it. If you want to look back in five years at a category you helped create, read on.

The Opportunity

UK social housing is one of the largest funded retrofit markets in Europe, and it lacks a specialist merchant. The JPS centre of excellence is being built to be exactly that: framework-led supply of solar PV, battery storage, ventilation and electrification products to housing associations, local authorities, main contractors and DLOs, backed by STARK's national branch and distribution network, and built to extend across the wider group as the category proves out.

The demand exists and is funded. The infrastructure exists. What the category needs now is a renewables specialist who can close.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

The Role

You are the closer. The category has live demand: framework positions, funded retrofit programmes, opportunities with housing providers and their contractor supply chains. Your job is to convert that pipeline into orders and repeat trading relationships.

You will:

  • Own and convert a qualified pipeline of renewables opportunities across social housing clients, main contractors and installers, from first meeting through to trading account.
  • Manage and grow named accounts, building multi-level relationships across procurement, asset management, sustainability and delivery teams.
  • Work funded programmes (SHDF, ECO and successor schemes, Warm Homes) with clients and contractors, aligning our supply proposition to their bid and delivery timetables.
  • Build product and solution proposals with support from our category and supplier partners, covering solar PV, battery storage, ventilation and associated products.
  • Work alongside JPS partnership account managers and regional sales teams, converting opportunities they originate and transferring account knowledge so relationships scale beyond you.
  • Maintain rigorous pipeline discipline in Salesforce: every opportunity logged, staged, forecast and followed through.
  • Represent the category at industry events, customer days and supplier engagements.
  • Help shape the playbook. As one of the first people in, how you sell becomes how the category sells.

What You Bring

This is a specialist role. We are open minded about which trade channel you come from: electrical wholesale, plumbing and heating, builders merchant, or a renewables distributor or installer background. What we are not flexible on is genuine renewables product expertise. You need to be credible in the room on the technology, not learning it on our customers.

Essential:

  • Deep working knowledge of renewables products and how they are sold: solar PV and battery storage as a minimum, ideally with heat pumps, EV charging or ventilation alongside. You can talk system design, compatibility, and specification with an installer or an asset manager and hold your own.
  • A demonstrable track record of closing B2B sales in a trade channel: named wins, real numbers, references who will back it up.
  • Commercial fluency: margin, credit, terms, and the ability to build a deal that works for customer and business.
  • Self-sufficiency in pipeline management and CRM discipline. You run your own book without being chased.
  • The appetite for a build. Comfort with ambiguity, energy for a new category, and motivation from being visibly responsible for revenue in a business that is watching this category closely.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel nationally.

  • Knowledge of funded retrofit mechanisms (SHDF, ECO4, PAS 2035 environment) and how contractors bid and deliver against them.
  • Existing relationships with tier 1/ECO contractors or MCS installers.
