Business Development Manager

Energy & Utility Solutions

Location: Elland, UK

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated Business Development Manager to drive new customer acquisition and revenue growth within our UK Energy Brokerage business.

This is a consultative sales role focused on identifying, engaging, and winning new commercial customers for energy and utility solutions. The successful candidate will develop and manage a pipeline of opportunities, build strong client relationships, and deliver tailored solutions that help customers effectively manage their energy and utility costs.

This is an individual contributor role with responsibility for achieving new business targets and supporting the continued growth of our Energy & Utility Solutions business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Generate new business opportunities through prospecting, networking, referrals, outbound activity, and targeted business development initiatives.
  • Build and maintain a healthy sales pipeline to achieve revenue and margin targets.
  • Identify customer needs and recommend tailored energy and utility solutions.
  • Manage the full sales cycle from lead generation through contract execution.
  • Conduct client meetings, presentations, and commercial negotiations.
  • Develop relationships with key decision makers across commercial and industrial organizations.
  • Present solutions across:
    • Electricity procurement
    • Natural gas procurement
    • Water services
    • Energy management solutions
    • Cost recovery and bill validation services
    • Sustainability and efficiency initiatives
  • Collaborate with internal operations, pricing, consulting, and customer support teams to deliver an exceptional customer experience.
  • Maintain accurate pipeline, forecast, and customer information within CRM systems.
  • Stay informed on market trends, supplier offerings, and industry developments.
  • Represent World Fuel professionally within the marketplace and at industry events.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in business development, new business sales, or consultative B2B sales.
  • Demonstrated success meeting or exceeding sales targets.
  • Strong prospecting, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple opportunities and priorities simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Self-motivated, resilient, and results focused.
  • Strong commercial awareness and customer-centric approach.

Preferred Experience

  • Energy brokerage or utility sales experience.
  • Experience selling electricity, gas, water, or related business services.
  • Knowledge of UK energy and utility markets.
  • Experience selling into SME and mid-market customers.
  • Familiarity with energy procurement, energy management, or sustainability solutions.
