Governments, defence organisations, healthcare and education providers are all facing seemingly impossible challenges - and the cloud and AI are how they'll solve them. AWS is looking for a Mission Innovation lead for the UK, Germany and International Organisations (UKGI) public sector team. Someone who can connect what is technically possible to the mission outcomes that matter most. Based in the UK, you'll create strategic customer relationships, win the trust of the most senior decision makers, and show them how the cloud and AI can bring clarity where strategy is still taking shape. Revenue growth and mission impact are treated as one goal, earned through disciplined customer engagement not through transactional selling.
This is a new role for UKGI, and success starts with customer obsession. You need to work backwards to understand what constitutes mission success for our customers, and then build the path from that vision to execution so they can solve their hardest problems. Trust is earned daily through consistent, high-value engagement, and it is measured honestly: every critical relationship is assessed regularly for whether it advanced, held steady, went quiet, or cooled, with a deliberate plan to move each one forward.
The role also demands invention on behalf of the customer. You will build evidence-based adoption narratives for our customers, grounded in efficiencies, cost savings, and mission successes that were achieved with other customers, public sector or not. You will show customers that if they bring their silos together in the cloud, they can unlock new capability that seemed impossible before. Prototypes are built quickly, shown early, and refined through customer feedback, producing a growing set of proof points. Adoption narratives span all levels of sensitivity, adding service accreditation, hardening, and additional assurance requirements when needed.
Customers should experience AWS as a quiet enabler that has placed capacity, compute, silicon, infrastructure, and power in the right place for the mission. You help them unlock that and shape opportunities where none formally existed.
Key job responsibilities
- Partner with our public sector customers to define mission success and apply our working backwards methodology to reach it.
- Build and iterate rapid prototypes that demonstrate value, capturing outcomes into a reusable set of proof points.
- Develop evidence-based adoption narratives, taking them from the commercial world and translating them for public sector at every level of sensitivity, adding security hardening as required.
- Map the decision makers who hold influence within key accounts, alongside understanding the formal and informal power structures that surround them.
- Identify and cultivate key influencers, enabling wider account teams to work through them to reach the decision makers for the whole public sector.
- Facilitate government-to-government and private-sector-to-government conversations, including cross-border engagement, that surface tradecraft and technical expertise in a way that is organic for the customer.
- Build and own a portfolio of strategic relationships, honestly grading the health and momentum of each account.
- Increase cloud utilisation of existing workloads by uncovering opportunities to improve data workflows, achieve cost efficiencies, and deploy new applications of generative and agentic AI.
- Contribute repeatable mechanisms that help account teams drive new workload migrations from on-premises environments and competitor platforms.
- Share thought leadership across the broader UKGI community, through white papers and on-stage presentations, on new and innovative ways to deliver mission outcomes.
- Support hackathons that accelerate external adoption of agentic AI and emerging technologies while extracting repeatable insights that sharpen account team strategy.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

A day in the life
A typical week blends customer time with internal research and collaboration, though customer time always comes first. Mornings might open with a pipeline review that identifies the key touchpoints needed to keep priority accounts progressing. Midday could bring an executive briefing where you use a working prototype to turn an abstract mission requirement into something a decision maker can see and react to. Afternoons could shift to enablement, translating a hard-won migration pattern into a repeatable approach that other account teams can reuse. Travel is frequent, because presence with the customer is where trust is built and how momentum is sustained.
