Business Director - Independent Media Agency (Planning-Led)

London | £80,000 + Bonus | Permanent

We're partnering exclusively with a fast-growing, independent media agency on a newly available Business Director role, working across a genuinely exciting and balanced mix of performance and brand clients — including a major retail account and one of the agency's longest-standing, most strategically important relationships.

This is a hands-on, client-facing leadership role sitting within one of the agency's largest planning teams, working closely with a highly respected Client MD and a fast-rising Group BD. You'll take ownership of the day-to-day client relationship, lead a small direct team with a wider group of indirect reports, and act as a senior, trusted voice for two demanding, high-profile accounts.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

What you'll be doing:

  • Owning senior client relationships across a mix of brand and performance accounts
  • Leading and developing a small team (line managing directly, with a wider group overseen indirectly)
  • Driving strategic, cross-channel media planning — this is a traditional planning-led role, not a single-channel specialism
  • Acting as a confident, credible voice in client comms, including pushing back and managing expectations on demanding accounts
  • Working closely with senior leadership as part of the agency's wider BD community

What we're looking for:

  • Strong, holistic media planning background — cross-channel experience essential, digital-only backgrounds won't be the right fit here
  • Independent agency experience (candidates purely from large networks have historically found the pace and culture a tougher adjustment)
  • Around 8 years' agency experience, ideally already operating at Business Director level (or very close to it)
  • Confident, credible and comfortable managing senior, high-expectation clients
  • Prior line management experience
