About Mortimer Street Capital
Mortimer Street Capital is a specialist finance brokerage helping businesses access the funding they need to grow, invest and manage their cash flow. We work with a broad panel of finance providers to source competitive and appropriate funding solutions for businesses across the UK. As part of our continued growth, we are looking for an experienced and commercially minded Business Finance Broker to join the team and develop our business finance proposition.
The Role
As a Business Finance Broker, you will be responsible for developing relationships with business owners, understanding their funding requirements and identifying appropriate finance solutions from across the market.
You will manage opportunities from initial enquiry through to completion, working closely with lenders, clients and internal teams to ensure applications are packaged effectively and progressed efficiently. This is a commercially focused role, suited to someone who enjoys sales, relationship management and finding solutions to complex funding requirements.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and manage relationships with business owners and commercial clients.
- Understand clients' businesses, financial circumstances and funding requirements.
- Identify suitable finance solutions from across the lender market.
- Source and compare appropriate funding options.
- Prepare and package high-quality finance applications.
- Liaise directly with lenders and their underwriting teams.
- Manage applications from initial enquiry through to completion.
- Maintain an accurate and well-managed pipeline of opportunities.
- Generate new business through referrals, networking, existing relationships and other channels.
- Identify opportunities to introduce additional finance solutions where appropriate.
- Build strong, long-term relationships with clients and finance providers.
- Meet agreed activity, conversion and income targets.
- Maintain accurate records within the company's CRM.
- Ensure all client interactions and applications are handled professionally and in accordance with company procedures and applicable regulatory requirements.

What we're looking for
We are looking for someone with experience in commercial finance, business finance, lending or a closely related financial services environment. The ideal candidate will have:
- Previous experience as a business or commercial finance broker, ideally with an established network of lenders and introducers.
- A strong understanding of business finance products and lending criteria.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- A commercially minded and consultative approach to sales.
- The ability to understand financial information and assess a client's funding requirements.
- Strong negotiation and influencing skills.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- The ability to manage multiple applications and priorities simultaneously.
- A proactive approach to generating and developing new business.
- Strong pipeline management and CRM discipline.
- The confidence to deal directly with business owners and senior decision-makers.
- A strong understanding of the importance of treating customers fairly and providing appropriate finance solutions.

- Knowledge of credit assessment and business financial statements.
- Experience working with accountants, solicitors, financial advisers or other professional introducers.
- Relevant financial services qualifications.

The person
We're looking for someone who is ambitious, commercially driven and enjoys helping businesses find solutions. You should be comfortable picking up the phone, building relationships and having commercially focused conversations with business owners. Most importantly, we're looking for someone who understands that successful broking is not simply about finding a lender. It's about understanding the client's business, identifying the right funding solution and delivering a high-quality service from enquiry through to completion.
