Working within the central Data Evidence and Performance (DEP) Hub, the role leads on corporate-level performance reporting, including KPIs, dashboards, management information (MI) and analysis for the Senior Leadership Team, Trustees and FCDO. The role ensures that performance insight is timely, accurate, consistent and trusted, drawing on enterprise data standards and governance.

The role plays a key part in embedding a performance-led culture, translating complex organisational data into clear, actionable insight that enables leaders to understand progress, risks and opportunities.

Main Accountabilities

• Create and maintain performance reporting frameworks, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and KPIs.
• Collect, prepare, and manage data from multiple sources, ensuring accuracy and fitness for purpose.
• Build and maintain interactive dashboards and reports using tools such as Power BI or Tableau.
• Translate complex datasets into clear narratives and actionable recommendations for non-technical audiences.
• Support teams in identifying key business questions and defining the data needed to address them.
• Conduct deep-dive analysis to evaluate marketing campaigns, pricing strategies, and customer behaviour.
• Ensure compliance with data governance, ethics, and privacy policies.
• Collaborate with other data professionals across the organisation to improve data quality, accessibility, and integration.
• Build stakeholder understanding of analytics outputs through training and guidance.
• Contribute to the development of the British Council’s data community by sharing best practices and learning

Minimum/essential Requirements of the role

• Degree, preferably in a relevant field such as data science, computer science, information systems, business, or a related discipline, e.g. a STEM subject or a finance-related subject. Equivalent professional experience will be considered where a degree is not held.
• Proven experience (2+ years) in BI analysis and/or data analysis.
• Strong quantitative analysis skills, with proficiency in tools such as SQL, analytics platforms, and Excel – and coding skills in python (preferred) or R.
• Experience developing and tracking metrics for digital service performance.
• Ability to translate data into actionable insights and recommendations.
• Strong data visualisation skills, with experience creating dashboards and reports.
• Understanding of data privacy and security principles.
• Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams, including product, marketing, and engineering.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for diverse audiences.
• Proven ability to work independently and manage priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
• Experience analysing Google Analytics (GA4) data.

Desirable

• Data or analytics-related certifications, such as in data management, data governance, or cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) are desirable but not required.
• Qualification(s) in data analysis or equivalent.
• Familiarity with visualisation tools such as Looker, Tableau and/or Power BI.
• Experience working in a global or multicultural context.
• Understanding of Agile ways of working and product development cycles.
