Business Intelligence (BI) Developer

As a Business Intelligence (BI) Developer, you’ll play a key role in modernising how data and reporting are delivered across two of our education products – iSAMS and Central. This is a hands-on BI role combining Power BI, Snowflake, SQL, and SSRS.

Key Responsibilities

Within iSAMS, our market-leading Management Information System for schools, you’ll help modernise our established SSRS reporting estate by moving its underlying data source onto Snowflake, while retaining SSRS as the reporting layer.

Alongside this, you’ll support our Central product as we develop a Snowflake-backed data warehouse and build Power BI reports embedded directly within the application.

You’ll:

  • Design Snowflake views
  • Write and optimise SQL
  • Build and improve reports
  • Work closely with Product Management, data engineering teams, and customers to ensure the information we provide is accurate, useful, and easy to understand

Why This Role Matters

Schools rely on accurate information every day to make decisions about pupils, staff, finances, and how their organisations are run.

Our reporting solutions turn the large volumes of data held within our products into information that schools can actually use.

By moving more of our data infrastructure onto Snowflake and expanding the use of Power BI, we’re creating a more modern, scalable, and flexible reporting platform for our customers.

Your work will directly influence that transformation – helping us migrate established reporting safely, improve performance and data quality, and build the next generation of reporting capabilities within our products.

About the Team You'll Join

You’ll join our Reporting Services team, working alongside BI and reporting specialists based across the UK and India.

The team sits at the point where data, technology, products, and customer needs come together.

You’ll work particularly closely with Product Management, software, and data engineering teams, as well as colleagues who support and work directly with our schools.

It’s a collaborative environment, but one where you’ll also be trusted to take ownership of your own reporting and development work.

You’ll be joining at an important point in our journey, with the opportunity to contribute ideas, shape reporting standards, and help influence how our BI capability develops as we make greater use of Snowflake and Power BI.

What You'll Be Doing

As a BI Developer in this team, you’ll:

  • Analyse existing iSAMS SSRS reports, understand their underlying data requirements, and map current data sources to their Snowflake equivalents.
  • Migrate existing SSRS reporting onto Snowflake-backed data sources, updating and validating queries to make sure reports remain accurate and perform effectively.
  • Design and build Power BI reports and dashboards for our Central product, with Power BI reporting surfaced directly within the application.
  • Create and maintain Snowflake views that provide reliable and efficient reporting datasets across iSAMS and Central.
  • Write, troubleshoot, and optimise SQL against cloud-based data warehouses.
  • Maintain and support the existing iSAMS SSRS report catalogue throughout the modernisation programme, helping ensure a smooth transition for customers.
  • Work closely with our data engineering teams as Snowflake data models and warehouse structures evolve.
  • Speak directly with customers and internal stakeholders to understand reporting requirements and translate them into practical BI solutions.
  • Investigate reporting, data quality, and performance issues and take ownership of finding the right solution.
  • Identify opportunities to improve report performance, data accuracy, visualisation, and the overall user experience.
  • Help establish and maintain good reporting standards across areas such as Power BI development, data visualisation, SQL, and documentation.
  • Document data sources, report logic, design decisions, and user guidance clearly so solutions can be understood and supported.
  • Take part in sprint planning and wider delivery activity, contributing to the roadmap for our reporting modernisation work.
  • Keep up to date with developments across Power BI, Snowflake, and the wider BI and analytics ecosystem, bringing useful ideas and improvements into the team.
  • Act as an escalation point for more complex technical reporting questions from customers and internal teams.
  • Build a strong understanding of the iSAMS and Central products and how their data is used by our customers.
  • Attend occasional in-person team meetings, customer workshops, and project sessions where required.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for an experienced BI or reporting professional who is comfortable getting hands-on with both the technical detail and the business requirement behind a report.

You’ll be a particularly strong fit if you have:

  • Strong experience using Microsoft Power BI, including report/dashboard development, data modelling, and DAX.
  • Strong SQL skills, including writing, troubleshooting, and optimising queries.
  • Experience working with Snowflake or another modern cloud data warehouse/data platform.
  • Experience designing and developing reports using Power BI and/or SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS).
  • A good understanding of how data models, views, and reporting layers work together within a BI environment.
  • Experience gathering requirements from customers, users, or internal stakeholders and turning those requirements into effective reporting solutions.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, particularly when investigating data discrepancies, report issues, or performance problems.
  • A strong focus on data accuracy and report quality.
  • The confidence to explain technical concepts clearly to colleagues or customers who may not have a technical background.
  • The ability to manage several pieces of development or migration work at the same time without losing sight of deadlines or detail.
  • A proactive approach – you’re comfortable taking ownership, investigating problems, and moving work forward.
  • The ability to work independently while still collaborating closely with developers, data engineers, Product teams, and other BI specialists.
  • An interest in continually improving your knowledge of Power BI, Snowflake, and modern BI practices.
  • Experience working on a BI modernisation, cloud migration, or data warehouse transformation programme would be particularly useful.
  • Experience with SSRS migration or modernisation would also be a strong advantage.
