Business Intelligence Developer

SQL, ETL, Power BI, DAX, Azure Data Factory, Data Warehousing, Reporting & Dashboard Development. Permanent. London Hybrid (3/2). c.£80k -£90k + Bonus + Benefits

About the Role

Global Law Firm seeks an experienced Business Intelligence Developer to join its Business Systems team, supporting and developing a business-critical BI Reporting and data platform. You'll work across an Enterprise Data Warehouse, Microsoft Power BI/Fabric and Azure Data Factory, helping the firm turn data into meaningful business insight while ensuring applications remain reliable, scalable and aligned with evolving business needs.

NOTE: This vacancy is offered by the IT Recruitment Division of Comtecs and is based at a Law Firm in London.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain SQL, data warehouse structures and ETL processes using Azure Data Factory.
  • Design and develop Power BI reports, dashboards and semantic models using DAX.
  • Work with stakeholders to gather, define and mature Business Intelligence requirements.
  • Translate business needs into practical BI solutions, enhancements and reporting capabilities.
  • Support integrations using Azure Data Factory, including REST API and OData connections.
  • Troubleshoot complex technical issues and proactively identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Manage application changes, documentation, security, governance and third-party relationships.

Requirements

You'll combine strong technical capability with excellent stakeholder skills, translating business requirements into effective data solutions and communicating technical concepts clearly to non-technical users.

Skills:

  • Expert SQL skills including stored procedures, functions, XML and JSON data types.
  • Strong understanding of Data Warehouse methodologies such as Kimball and Inmon.
  • Strong Power BI report and dashboard development and DAX skills, including semantic modelling and paginated reports.
  • Experience building ETL and integrations using Azure Data Factory.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to gather and translate BI requirements.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience with Tabular Editor, DAX Studio and ALM Toolkit.
  • Experience of DevOps, CI/CD and deployment pipelines.
  • Experience within the legal sector or another highly regulated environment.
  • Experience with aspects of MS Fabric as the platform is being rolled out across the environment.

About You

This is an excellent opportunity to join a Business Systems team working across multiple systems and departments within the firm where you'll combine hands-on SQL and ETL engineering, Power BI development and business-facing requirements gathering to help shape and improve a highly important Business Intelligence and data platform.

Experience gained in:

  • Law Firm, Legal Services, Legal Application Vendors / Systems Integrators or Consultancies (welcomed but non-essential).
  • Financial Services, Banking / Investment Banking (London Stock Exchange, London Metal Exchange etc).
  • Wider professional services environments.
