🚨 Data / BI Engineer | £70,000 | Fully Remote | Permanent

I’m working with an established UK business going through a major transformation across its data and technology estate, and they’re looking for a hands-on Data / BI Engineer to join the team. This could suit someone currently working as a Data Engineer, BI Engineer, BI Developer or ETL Developer who has strong SQL Server foundations and wants to develop further into cloud data engineering.

The immediate focus will be supporting and maintaining a business-critical Microsoft data environment, including:

  • SQL Server and T-SQL
  • SSIS and ETL pipelines
  • Stored procedures
  • Data integrations and transformations
  • Supporting existing reporting and data processes

They’re not looking for a Lead or someone to manage a team. They want someone technically strong enough to understand an existing environment, debug issues independently and take ownership of the day-to-day data engineering work.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

The longer-term opportunity is a big part of the appeal.

The business is continuing its move into AWS and is about to embark on a major Oracle ERP transformation, which will ultimately replace much of the legacy estate. You’ll work alongside experienced Data Engineers and have the opportunity to develop further across cloud ETL, Python and modern data platforms.

What they’re looking for:

  • Strong SQL Server / T-SQL experience
  • Experience building and debugging SSIS packages
  • Good understanding of ETL / ELT concepts
  • Experience working with stored procedures and data transformations
  • Comfortable supporting existing data and BI environments
  • Able to understand and troubleshoot pipelines independently
  • Interest in developing further into AWS and cloud data engineering

Nice to have:

  • Power BI, semantic models or DAX
  • Python
  • AWS
  • ERP or finance system integrations

You don’t need to come from a finance background, and this isn’t a role for someone focused purely on dashboard creation or reporting. The core of the role is data engineering, SQL and ETL, with BI exposure being highly relevant.

💰 Up to £70,000

🏠 Fully remote

📍 Monthly team meet-up in London, travel expenses covered

📈 Permanent role with genuine cloud and data engineering progression

The interview process is straightforward, an initial conversational interview followed by a live SQL exercise focused on your approach, thought process and communication.

If you’re working in BI or Data Engineering today and feel your SQL / SSIS experience gives you a strong technical foundation to move further into modern data engineering, get in touch.
