- Contract: Permanent
The Business & Governance Manager will act as a trusted business management partner to the Chief Investment Officer, translating strategic priorities into clear plans, coordinated delivery and measurable outcomes. The role combines business planning, performance insight and cross-functional execution with ownership of the Investment function’s core governance framework, enabling effective decision-making, disciplined delivery and strong oversight of risk and controls.
Based within the Investment function, the role will work across Governance, Research and Strategy and partner closely with Risk, Compliance, Finance, Operations, Distribution, Technology, Marketing and Communications. It will serve as a central coordination point for the investment leadership team, Group stakeholders, assurance functions, auditors and relevant external providers.
Key responsibilities include:
- Business planning and execution: Partner with the CIO and investment leadership team to translate strategic priorities into integrated plans, clear accountabilities, delivery milestones and measurable outcomes.
- Investment Process Management: Support, embed and continuously enhance investment processes across the function, identifying inefficiencies, reducing operational risk and implementing scalable process improvements that strengthen outcomes, governance and resilience.
- Investment Governance Ownership: Own and manage the Investment function's governance framework, ensuring consistency, rigour, timely delivery, effective decision-making and robust audit trails across all governance activity. Maintain and periodically refresh governance documentation, including Terms of Reference, governance artefacts, decision records and action logs.
- Performance and insight: Develop, monitor and report on KPIs, management information and governance metrics relating to business performance, customer outcomes and investment activities. Provide clear, evidence-based insight to support decision making and strategic planning.
- Risk and control oversight: Maintain oversight of investment-related risks, controls, audit actions and information requests, partnering with Risk, Compliance, Governance and assurance teams to secure timely resolution.

- Technology and process improvement: Partner with Technology teams to design and enhance automated workflows, improve process controls and identify opportunities to leverage AI and other technologies to improve efficiency, governance and effectiveness.
- Capability development and business enablement: Support the development of internal investment capabilities, reducing reliance on external providers where appropriate. I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
