About Us
Marie Curie is the UK’s leading end-of-life charity. We are the largest non-NHS provider of end-of-life care in the UK, the only provider across all 4 nations, delivering community nursing and hospice care across the country, while providing information and support on all aspects of dying, death, and bereavement. Our leading research pushes the boundaries of what we know about good end-of-life, and our campaigns fight for a world where everyone gets to have the best possible quality of life while living with an illness, they’re likely to die from.
The care and support we provide is highly valued by the people we care for and their loved ones, but at present we are only reaching around 10% of dying people at the end of life. Right now, one in four people in the UK with a terminal illness, do not get the care or support they deserve at the end of their lives.
We want a different society than the one we live in now. Our mission for the next five years is to close the gap in the number of people missing out on what they need at the end-of-life.
Job Description
We are looking for an experienced and motivated Business Manager to play an important role within our Caring Services directorate. If you are passionate about using commercial insight, data, and collaborative working to improve services and support people at one of the most important times in their lives, we’d love to hear from you.
As Business Manager, you will work as an integral part of the place based Caring Services team, supporting business development, proposal and tender activity, lifecycle contract management, reporting and analysis. You will provide commercial expertise, insight and challenge to help shape local growth plans, support effective decision making, and ensure services deliver value and impact. You will report into the Senior Business Manager and form an integral part of the business team for London and the Home Counties.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Owning commissioner relationships for your designated services, including leading contract management activity, coordinating contract renewals and variations, supporting commercial negotiations, and maintaining accurate records within our CRM systems.
- Supporting the full business development lifecycle, from market intelligence and opportunity assessment through to proposal development, tender submissions, mobilisation support and contracts management.
- Contributing to place based integrated governance arrangements and ensuring joint working between commercial, operational and support teams.
- Developing and maintaining clear reporting cycles, analysing financial, commercial and performance information, and presenting complex data in an accessible way.
- Working closely with the Senior Business Manager, finance colleagues and other Business Managers to support pricing, cost recovery, risk mitigation and contract performance.
- Coordinating with the clinical and operations teams to ensure services are running to budget, and that contract agreements reflect the services in practice.
- Building productive relationships with internal teams, commissioners, partners and stakeholders to identify opportunities, support service development and promote Marie Curie’s work.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
