About the Role
Are you naturally curious about what’s happening in the market and what it means for a business? Do you enjoy getting into the data, spotting trends and turning what you find into clear recommendations that can make a difference?
We’re looking for a Business & Market Insights Partner to join our newly established team focusing on insights, and help Booker better understand our customers, competitors, markets and business performance.
Booker operates across a diverse range of customers, from independent retailers and convenience stores to forecourts, cafés, takeaways, pubs, restaurants and multi-site operators. This gives us access to a rich mix of customer, sales, loyalty and market data, alongside external market intelligence, creating plenty of opportunities to uncover trends, identify growth opportunities and support better commercial decisions.
You’ll take ownership of a varied mix of projects, using internal data, research and external insight to understand what’s happening and, importantly, what we should do about it. You could be analysing market and sales data, exploring competitor activity, developing customer segmentations or bringing together different sources of information to build a clear picture of performance and opportunity.
As part of a growing team, you’ll also play an active role in shaping how we use data and insight at Booker, helping to develop tools, reporting, dashboards and ways of working that make insight easier to access and use across the business.
You will be responsible for
- Taking ownership of insight projects from the initial brief through to analysis, recommendations and action planning.
- Supporting the development and governance of insight tools, data sources, reporting systems and best practice.
- Analysing market, sales, loyalty and customer data to identify trends, opportunities, risks and areas for improvement.
- Keeping a close eye on competitor activity, market developments and industry trends to identify potential opportunities and threats.
- Using customer and market segmentations to support targeted decision making, proposition development and commercial strategy.
- Exploring new data and customer platforms to uncover opportunities and developing reporting frameworks, dashboards and KPIs to track customer, market and business performance.
- Bringing together internal data, external market intelligence and research to create clear, compelling and actionable insight.
- Supporting strategic planning through activities such as segmentation, market sizing, benchmarking, trend analysis and performance evaluation.
- Presenting insight in a clear and engaging way, tailoring your approach for different audiences across Sales, Operations, Commercial, Marketing, Product and Leadership.
- Playing an active role in shaping the future of the Insight function, including tools, processes and ways of working.

You will need
- Experience in an insight or analytics role, either client-side or agency-side, with experience independently delivering insight projects from start to finish.
- A naturally curious mindset and a genuine interest in understanding market dynamics and customer behaviour.
- Strong experience working with large datasets, such as sales, loyalty or customer data, and the ability to apply sound analytical judgement.
- The ability to bring together different sources of data and turn findings into a clear and compelling story.
- Confidence working with imperfect, incomplete or conflicting data and using good judgement to reach balanced conclusions and recommendations.
- A track record of turning insight into recommendations that influence decision making.
- Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the ability to create clear briefs and drive action through insight.
- The ability to adapt and thrive in a growing and evolving team.
- Retail, wholesale, FMCG or foodservice experience would be beneficial.
- Strong SQL skills and experience with Databricks would be beneficial.
