Business Operations Manager
Location: Portsmouth – with Nationwide Travel
Position Type: Permanent, full-time
Compensation: Competitive salary plus benefits
The Business Operations Manager will play a pivotal role in driving operational excellence across the business. This role is responsible for improving the efficiency, consistency, and effectiveness of business operations through process improvement, systems implementation, performance reporting, and the successful delivery of strategic business initiatives.
The successful candidate will act as the Managing Director's operational lead, taking ownership of key business improvement projects, ensuring company-wide initiatives are delivered effectively, and providing the management information required to support informed decision-making. This role will work across all departments and locations to standardise processes, improve collaboration, and embed a culture of continuous improvement.

Business Improvement & Continuous Improvement
- Lead and deliver company-wide continuous improvement initiatives.
- Identify opportunities to improve business efficiency, productivity, and service delivery.
- Develop and implement new business processes and procedures.
- Drive efficiency and cost-saving initiatives across the organisation.
- Monitor improvement plans and ensure agreed actions are successfully delivered.
- Track internal and external audit findings and ensure corrective actions are implemented.

Operational Excellence
- Standardise operational processes and record keeping across all business locations.
- Reduce duplication of activities, documentation, and administrative tasks.
- Improve communication and collaboration between departments.
- Review existing ways of working and recommend practical improvements.
- Promote best practice and consistency throughout the business.
Business Management Systems
- Lead the implementation of new business system.
- Support system optimisation to maximise business benefits.
- Improve data quality, integrity, and reporting capability.
- Drive the digitalisation of paper-based processes.
- Coordinate system testing, user training, and business-wide rollouts.
- Support users following implementation to maximise adoption.
Business Performance & Reporting
- Own the production of monthly business KPI reporting.
- Manage group company reporting requirements and ensure timely submission.
- Produce meaningful management information to support business performance and decision making.
- Track actions arising from leadership meetings and ensure completion.
Resource Planning & Business Support
- Maintain oversight of staff utilisation and operational capacity.
- Identify opportunities to improve resource allocation across locations.
- Support cross-site collaboration and sharing of resources.
- Work closely with department managers to improve operational planning.
- Provide operational support to the Managing Director on key strategic initiatives.

Leadership & Stakeholder Management
- Work collaboratively with senior managers across all departments.
- Build positive relationships across the wider business.
- Influence and support managers in implementing change.
- Communicate business improvements clearly and effectively.
Qualifications
- Working within a marine or MOD customer base, or working within the Industrial Cleaning/Engineering environment.
- Proven experience in business operations.
- Experience leading cross-functional improvement projects.
- Strong analytical and reporting skills with the ability to interpret business data.
- Experience producing management information and KPI reporting.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent organisational and planning skills.
