Salary: Grade 12

Contract: Fixed Term – Until 13 December 2027. This is an office-based role, with some hybrid working, which will require travel to multiple bases across the county 2-3 days per week.

Hours: 37 Hours a week.

Closing date: 14th October 2026

About the Role

In the Public Health Nursing service, we are working to improve the lives of children and families in Somerset with an aim to help improve health and wellbeing and you’ll be a key part of that.

As a Business Operations Officer, you'll help ensure services run smoothly by leading business support functions, coordinating resources, and maintaining high standards of customer service.

Working across specialist service areas, you'll play a key role in supporting operational teams to deliver efficient, high-quality services for Somerset's children, families, and communities.

How You'll Make a Difference

  • Supervise, co-ordinate and monitor the work of a Team who provide specialist business operation activities to frontline professionals and Managers.

  • Provide advice, guidance and training to staff on specific aspects of their role. Undertake performance reviews/supervision/appraisals and make recommendations regarding team members’ development and training needs.

  • Handling sensitive and confidential data, maintaining comprehensive and accurate records.

  • Lead and develop a specialist business support team, ensuring efficient operations and excellent customer service.

  • Act as the business support lead for Children and Families and Public Health Nursing services, coordinating county-wide activities and best practice.

  • Drive service improvement through new systems, processes, projects, and staff development.

  • Support recruitment, training, compliance, financial processes, and corporate change to help teams deliver outstanding services.

What You'll Bring

  • Experience in business operations, administration, or business support, with the ability to coordinate workloads and deliver high-quality services.
  • Strong organisational, communication, and problem-solving skills, with excellent attention to detail.
  • Confidence analysing information, producing reports, and using data to support decision-making and service improvement.
  • Ability to build positive working relationships and collaborate effectively with colleagues, managers, and partner teams.
  • A good understanding of business processes, compliance requirements, and customer-focused service delivery.
  • Educated to A-Level, BTEC, or equivalent experience.

Further Information

  • 28 day’s annual leave (additional to bank holidays).
  • We are happy to consider flexible working patterns – we work hard to sustain a good work-life balance and are passionate about maintaining a positive and supportive working culture.
  • This role offers hybrid working, allowing you to work either from home or from our offices at County Hall, Taunton. There is an expectation that you will be in the office a minimum of two days a week.
  • Interviews are scheduled for 21st and 22nd October 2026.
