Head of Operations Business Planning & Governance

What you'll be doing:

  • The Business Planning & Governance Lead is accountable for owning and operating the integrated Operations business planning, performance and governance framework, providing coordinated executive support and business management for the COO and Operations Senior Leadership Team.
  • The role ensures that strategic intent, regulatory commitments and executive priorities — including activity planned by other areas that impacts Operations — are translated into clear, affordable and deliverable plans.
  • It provides central coordination and assessment of demand on Operations to ensure capacity, capability and risk are understood, trade‑offs are explicit, and activity is sequenced and governed effectively.
  • Produce and maintain an integrated Operations business plan, aligning strategy, regulatory commitments, priorities, demand, capacity and funding.
  • Establish and maintain governance frameworks to support transparent decision‑making for business plan development and change.
  • Working with Operations leadership, and the MI & Planning function, support development of ad-hoc budget proposals.
  • Working with Operations SLT, co-ordinate development of the objectives, key results and KPIs for Operations and engage the MI & Planning team to embed into planning, monitoring & forecasting.
  • Work with key stakeholders including Commercial and Finance to ensure planning activity is effectively co-ordinated and sequenced for Operations. Ensure re-forecasting / impact analysis is undertaken where material changes occur in-year and decisions are correctly documented and escalated to the appropriate forum.
  • Design and operate proportionate Operations governance structures that support effective oversight without unnecessary bureaucracy.
  • Coordinate inputs across functions to support executive decision‑making, submissions and reviews.

What we’re looking for:

  • Proven experience working in a Pensions environment, ideally within an Operations function.
  • Adaptable and self-aware, able to thrive in fast-paced and evolving environments.
  • Experience in report preparation for Committees, C-Suite and external audiences.
  • Exceptional data analysis and visualisation skills.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, SharePoint).
  • Highly organised, proactive, and accountable, with strong attention to detail.
  • Continuous improvement mindset.
  • Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills.
