Business Rates Officer | Revenues | Hybrid

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Business Rates Officer to join a Local Authority on an initial 6-month contract. This role offers hybrid working and would suit a candidate with strong NNDR knowledge who can confidently manage business rates accounts, billing, recovery and relief administration.

Location: Hybrid - London
Duration: 6 months (with potential extension)
Start Date: ASAP
Language: English
Engagement: Freelance / Contract

Key Responsibilities:

  • Administer and maintain Business Rates (NNDR) accounts.
  • Process changes in liability, occupation, ownership and property alterations.
  • Calculate and issue bills, adjustments, refunds and account amendments.
  • Assess and award mandatory and discretionary relief applications.
  • Liaise with the Valuation Office Agency (VOA) regarding property valuations and account updates.
  • Manage recovery processes including reminders, summonses and enforcement referrals.
  • Respond to customer enquiries and resolve complex account queries.
  • Ensure compliance with current Business Rates legislation and council procedures.

Essential:

  • Previous experience working as a Business Rates Officer, NNDR Officer or Revenues Officer.
  • Strong knowledge of Non-Domestic Rates legislation and processes.
  • Experience with billing, recovery, reliefs and account maintenance.
  • Ability to interpret legislation and apply it accurately.
  • Experience managing high-volume caseloads independently.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.

Desirable:

  • Previous Local Authority experience.
  • Experience using NEC, Northgate, Civica or similar revenues systems.
  • Knowledge of VOA processes and property valuation appeals.
  • Ability to hit the ground running with minimal supervision.
