Join a growing business rates team where you'll help shape its future
We're working with a leading professional services firm to appoint a Business Rates Surveyor into a growing London-based team. This is an opportunity to join a business investing in its business rates offering, giving you the chance to influence how the team develops while working alongside experienced specialists with backgrounds at some of the UK's leading property consultancies.
The Business Rates Surveyor role offers exposure to a varied client portfolio across offices, industrial, manufacturing, private schools and specialist assets, meaning no two days are the same.
The opportunity
As a Business Rates Surveyor, you'll manage your own portfolio of rating instructions while delivering advice to a diverse range of commercial clients. You'll work within a collaborative national team that is expanding across the UK and benefits from a strong internal referral network, allowing you to focus on client delivery rather than relying heavily on business development.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing a varied business rates caseload across a range of commercial property sectors.
- Handling Check, Challenge and Appeal (CCA) cases from instruction through to resolution.
- Preparing and submitting relief applications where appropriate.
- Inspecting commercial properties and undertaking measurements where required.
- Advising clients on rating liabilities and opportunities to reduce costs.
- Preparing valuation reports and supporting evidence for negotiations with the Valuation Office Agency.
- Building strong relationships with clients and internal stakeholders.
- Supporting business development through cross-selling and identifying opportunities within existing client relationships.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
