What is the purpose of this job?
Business Relationship management responsibilities include developing strong relationships with Train Operating Companies (TOCs), Rail Suppliers, Rail Organisations and other key stakeholders across the Rail Industry. The Business Relationship Manager will work on identifying new innovative opportunities and solutions for the TOCs, identifying and driving through Rail Supplier efficiencies to the benefit of the TOCs, and identifying points of alignment with other Rail Organisations to drive through benefits to the TOCs and the wider Rail Industry. This role will liaise with cross-functional internal teams and take a supporting role in improving the entire customer experience.
The role will act as a main point of contact for TOCs and Rail Suppliers in their engagement with the DTS Service, should act as the trusted adviser and strategic business partner to TOCs, Rail Suppliers, and other Rail Organisations. Value will be provided in early feasibility and guidance on proposed changes, a wide view and knowledge of industry changes and those of other TOCs, the Rail Suppliers, and other Rail Organisations to support cross TOCs, Supply chain and Rail Organisation collaboration to the benefit of the Rail Industry.
What can I expect to do in this job?
No two days are quite the same, but some of the things you will be involved in include:
- Develop trust relationships with the Train Operating Companies (TOCs) and proactively address concerns across the various companies, through consistent engagement.
- Develop trust relationships with the Rail Suppliers, to ensure supplier needs are understood, prioritised and met, through consistent engagement.
- Develop trust relationships with other Rail Organisations, to ensure their needs are understood, prioritised and met, through consistent engagement.
- Acquiring a thorough understanding of key customer needs and requirements.
- Expanding the relationships with existing TOCs by identifying new innovative opportunities and solutions for the TOCs, driving through Rail Supplier efficiencies, and align with other Rail Organisations to meet TOC objectives.
- Collaborate with TOCs to do early solution design, high level feasibility planning.
- Collaborate with other Rail Organisations to identify points of alignment to the benefit of the TOCs and the wider Rail industry.
- Collaborate with the Rail Suppliers to the benefit of the TOCs and the wider Rail industry.
- Strong stakeholder management and the ability to challenge appropriately.
- Co-ordinate with DTS and wider RDG strategic planning, design authority to ensure proposals are in line with wider DTS and RDG activities.
- Oversight of Budgets and commercial relationships with key delivery partners.
- Support the management of service contracts with key delivery partners.
- The Business Relationship manager will support the strategic relationship with the TOCs, being a key point of contact, to be able to understand their goals, challenges, to be able to drive success, through technology or services.
- The Business Relationship manager will support the strategic relationship with the Rail Suppliers, being a key point of contact.
- The Business Relationship manager will support the strategic relationship with the Rail Organisations, being a key point of contact.
- They will operate across both operations (problem solving, acting as a trusted point of contact for TOCs, resolving internal DTS issues blocking resolution of incidents or delivery of change requests).
- Additionally, they will support strategic engagement between RDG, DTS, the TOCs, Rail Suppliers, and other Rail Organisations. This will involve early stage solution design and feasibility, industry wide knowledge and strategic roadmap for Digital ticketing solutions.
- They will have strong stakeholder management, Transportation Digital Ticketing (preferably trains) and associated technical understanding is very desirable. Experience delivering client-focused solutions to customer needs.
- They will need to demonstrate a proven ability to juggle multiple tasks and workstreams at the same time, while maintaining sharp attention to detail.
- This role is not expected to have direct budget responsibility but will be expected to be heavily involved in TOC investment negotiations and commercial negotiations with key suppliers.

Essential
- Able to build strong and lasting partnerships, a confident stakeholder manager with demonstratable experience of operating within a complex stakeholder landscape.
- Excellent communication, both written and oral.
- Strong negotiation, Influencing, Persuasion, and conflict management skills.
- Strong problem-solving and Decision-Making skills.
- Demonstrable strategic and leadership skills, and holistic risk assessment abilities, resilience, and the ability to work under pressure and to deadlines.
- Able to effectively manage competing demands from stakeholders whilst maintaining on-time delivery.
- Good planning and Organisational skills, a team player, who will seek continuous improvement to the services provided to stakeholders.
- Comfortable working within a Changing environment, able to adapt and be Flexible.
- Knowledge and understanding of Digital ticketing, and rail systems.
- PC literate with good working knowledge of MS Office suite of applications and MS Project and Visio.
