Business Services Senior Manager
Cardiff
£75,000-£90,000
There are plenty of Senior Manager jobs where the role essentially means reviewing accounts, monitoring recoveries and sitting in internal meetings. This isn't one of them.
This is a client-facing position within a highly successful independent accountancy firm where business owners expect their adviser to understand what is happening in their company and help them work through it.
The portfolio ranges from start-ups through to established businesses approaching £15m turnover. The client base is deliberately sector agnostic, so you could be discussing growth plans with one owner in the morning and helping another work through a technical accounting issue later that afternoon.
The Business Services Senior Manager will effectively become number two to a very experienced director whose portfolio has reached capacity, creating genuine room for responsibility and progression.
The role
- Managing a varied portfolio of owner-managed businesses
- Holding regular face-to-face meetings with clients
- Reviewing statutory accounts and more complex accounting work
- Advising clients when unusual technical or commercial issues arise
- Supporting business owners with reporting, structures and financial decision-making
- Managing workflow across the team and developing more junior colleagues
- Identifying opportunities to broaden relationships and introduce additional services

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
