Senior Manager – Office of the CFO | Manchester (Hybrid) 3 days a week in office

This is an opportunity to take your finance career in a more commercial, strategic and influential direction. We’re working with a highly respected professional services firm that is investing significantly in its Office of the CFO offering. As the team continues to grow, they are looking for an experienced Senior Manager to take ownership of key client relationships, lead and develop a high-performing team, and help shape the future growth of the service line. This isn’t simply another senior accounts position. You’ll work directly with CFOs, Finance Directors and business owners, helping them navigate complex financial challenges, improve performance and make better commercial decisions. You’ll have the opportunity to become a genuine trusted adviser while playing a key role in the continued growth of an ambitious and expanding team.

The opportunity

As Senior Manager, you’ll take ownership of a diverse portfolio of clients and lead the delivery of high-quality finance and advisory services. You’ll combine your technical accounting expertise with commercial insight, client leadership and people management, helping businesses understand their numbers, improve financial performance and plan for sustainable growth. You’ll also have a genuine voice in the development of the Office of the CFO offering, with the opportunity to influence how the team operates, develop future leaders and identify opportunities to grow existing client relationships.

What you’ll be doing

  • Act as a trusted finance adviser to a diverse portfolio of clients across a range of sectors.
  • Build strong, long-term relationships with CFOs, Finance Directors and business owners.
  • Review management accounts, statutory accounts and financial reporting, providing meaningful commercial insight.
  • Advise clients on budgeting, forecasting, cash flow and wider financial planning.
  • Oversee audit liaison and ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards.
  • Lead, mentor and develop Managers, Assistant Managers and junior team members.
  • Support businesses transitioning to outsourced finance and Office of the CFO services.
  • Identify opportunities to expand client relationships and introduce additional advisory services.
  • Work collaboratively with specialists across the wider business to provide joined-up solutions.
  • Contribute to the strategic development and growth of the Office of the CFO service line.
  • Play an active role in developing the Manchester team and its future direction.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Experience in outsourced finance, CFO Services or advising SME and mid-market businesses would be advantageous, but is not essential.

Why this opportunity?

This is a chance to broaden your career beyond traditional accounting and move further into strategic finance and advisory. You’ll have:

  • Real leadership responsibility with the autonomy to make an impact.
  • Direct access to CFOs, Finance Directors and business owners.
  • The opportunity to become a genuine trusted adviser, rather than simply a technical resource.
  • Exposure to a diverse portfolio of ambitious businesses and sectors.
  • The chance to help shape a growing and strategically important service line.
  • Clear progression opportunities towards Director level.
  • The opportunity to develop and mentor the next generation of finance professionals.
  • A collaborative environment where your ideas, relationships and commercial contribution are genuinely valued.

If you’re an experienced accountant who wants to move closer to the decision-making, have greater influence with clients and build something rather than simply maintain it, this could be an excellent next move.

If you're looking for a role that brings together technical accounting, commercial advisory, client leadership and people development, we’d love to hear from you.
