About The Role
Plymouth City Council is pleased to offer two apprenticeship opportunities within our Business Support Team. This role provides an excellent opportunity to gain practical experience, develop valuable skills, and contribute to the delivery of high-quality services in a supportive and fast-paced environment. This apprenticeship is ideal for individuals who are motivated, organised, and keen to develop a career in business support and administration.
Key Duties And Responsibilities
As a Business Support Administrator Apprentice, you will:
- Manage and respond to emails in a professional and timely manner
- Use Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Teams, to support day-to-day business activities
- Handle inbound and outbound telephone calls, providing a courteous and professional service
- Work with internal systems and platforms, including financial systems such as Civica (full training provided)
- Support financial and administrative processes with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Build and maintain effective working relationships within a team environment
- Manage and prioritise a rotating workload to meet deadlines and service standards
- Rotate through a variety of business support functions to develop a broad range of skills and experience

What We’re Looking For
Skills and Experience
- Experience of working towards deadlines
- Experience of working as part of a team
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel
Personal Qualities
- Organised and reliable
- Willingness to learn
- Good attention to detail
- Professional and approachable
Qualifications
- GCSEs at grades A–C (9–4) or equivalent in English and Maths
Apprenticeship Training
The apprenticeship will be delivered in partnership with On Course South West. You will receive structured training alongside your role, with protected time during your working week to complete off-the-job learning.
Your existing qualifications will be reviewed to confirm eligibility for apprenticeship funding, and you may be required to complete a functional skills assessment.

Our aim is to support your progression within the Council on successful completion of your apprenticeship. There are a range of development pathways and opportunities available to help you continue and build a rewarding career in local government.
