Business Support Officer – 6 Month Contract
Location: 6 Brixton Hill, London, SW2 1RW
Rate: £26.78 per hour (Umbrella)
Contract: 6 Month Contract
Hours: Full Time
Working Pattern: Office-Based with Some Home Working Flexibility
Pay: Bi-Weekly
Summary
Lambeth Council is on the lookout for a skilled Business Support Officer to deliver a thorough, professional, and customer-centric business support service across various Council departments. This dynamic and fast-paced position involves assisting operational teams with administrative, financial, and data management tasks, ensuring compliance with statutory obligations and the delivery of high-quality services to residents. The ideal candidate will be exceptionally organized, adaptable, and capable of handling a demanding workload while upholding high standards of accuracy and customer service.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive business support across multiple service areas.
- Oversee shared mailboxes and manage correspondence.
- Handle finance-related transactions and administrative requests.
- Accurately input, maintain, store, and archive data.
- Organize meetings, prepare documents, and take notes.
- Manage caseload and workflow systems effectively.
- Update and maintain local and corporate databases and IT systems.
- Generate reports, spreadsheets, and management information.
- Ensure records are precise and current for statutory returns and local reporting.
- Support the execution of established business processes and procedures.
- Collaborate flexibly across teams to meet business needs.
- Assist in identifying service improvements and efficiencies.
- Contribute to Lambeth's paperlite and digital working initiatives.
- Prioritize workload efficiently and meet deadlines in a reactive environment.

Essential Requirements
- Proven experience in providing business, administrative, or operational support in a busy office setting.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and workload management abilities.
- Experience in managing competing priorities and adhering to deadlines.
- Proficiency in IT skills, including:
- Microsoft Word
- Excel
- Outlook
- Databases and business systems
- Experience in maintaining accurate records and data management systems.
- Ability to produce reports and analyze information.
- Exceptional customer service skills.
- Flexibility and adaptability to changing priorities.
- Keen attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
Desirable
- Experience in Local Government or Public Sector services.
- Familiarity with finance processing and administrative workflows.
- Experience with case management, CRM, or specialized business support systems.
- Experience supporting regulatory or statutory services.

Working Arrangements
- The role is primarily office-based.
- Training will be conducted in person, requiring frequent office attendance initially.
- Upon successful training completion, some home working flexibility will be available.
- The current team office day is Thursday.
- Additional office attendance may be necessary during periods of change or increased service demand, including the implementation of new IT systems.
