Business Support Officer – Job Description

Job Purpose

The Business Support Officer is responsible for providing comprehensive administrative and operational support to ensure the efficient running of business functions and the delivery of high-quality services. The post holder will support the managing director and teams by coordinating administrative processes, maintaining accurate records, managing communications, and assisting with financial and project-related activities. They will play a key role in ensuring organisational procedures are followed, deadlines are met, and excellent customer service is provided to both internal and external stakeholders.

This is a full-time office-based role located in our Birmingham office, working hours will be from 9 am – 6 pm.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide efficient administrative support to managers and teams.
  • Manage correspondence, emails, telephone enquiries, and incoming requests in a professional and timely manner.
  • Prepare, format, and distribute reports, presentations, meeting agendas, and minutes.
  • Maintain accurate electronic and paper-based records, ensuring compliance with organisational policies and data protection requirements.
  • Coordinate meetings, appointments, travel arrangements, and events where required.
  • Update and maintain databases and management information systems.
  • Monitor workloads, track deadlines, and ensure timely completion of administrative tasks.
  • Liaise with internal departments, external organisations, customers, and suppliers to support service delivery.
  • Assist with project administration, performance reporting, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with organisational policies, procedures, and health and safety requirements.
  • Provide excellent customer service by responding to enquiries efficiently and resolving issues where appropriate.
  • Undertake any other duties appropriate to the grade of the post.

  • Strong administrative and organisational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritise workloads and meet competing deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and business management systems.
  • Experience of handling confidential information with discretion.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Experience in an administrative or business support role is desirable.
