Salary: Grade 14 - £26,016 to £26,847 per annum

Contract: Permanent

Hours: 37 hours per week

Location:

This role offers flexibility to work from any of our offices at Yeovil, Bridgwater, Shepton Mallet or Taunton, depending on business need. Travel between office locations may occasionally be required.

Interviews:

Interviews will take place at County Hall on either 22nd or 23rd October.

About the Role

Our Regulatory and Environmental Health Support Team plays a vital role in helping residents, businesses and communities access key council services. The team supports a wide range of environmental health and licensing functions, helping to keep Somerset safe, compliant and well-managed.

As an Environmental Health Support Officer, you'll be at the heart of service delivery, helping customers navigate enquiries, applications and service requests while providing specialist administrative and technical support. Working within a friendly, knowledgeable team, you'll use your problem-solving skills to manage a varied caseload, provide advice and coordinate information that supports essential regulatory services across Somerset. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference to people's experiences of council services, while developing your expertise in a supportive and collaborative environment.

How You'll Make a Difference

  • Be a trusted first point of contact, helping residents, businesses and partners access the support and information they need.
  • Manage a varied caseload of enquiries, applications and service requests, ensuring they are resolved efficiently and in line with legislation and service standards.
  • Provide practical advice and guidance on environmental health and licensing matters, helping customers achieve positive outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate records and systems that support effective decision-making, performance monitoring and regulatory compliance.
  • Work closely with colleagues across services to improve processes, enhance customer experience and support continuous service improvement.

What You'll Bring

  • Experience of managing cases, enquiries or applications in a busy customer-focused or regulatory environment.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills, with the ability to build positive relationships and handle sensitive situations professionally.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to balance competing priorities while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Confidence using IT systems, databases and reporting tools to manage information and support service delivery.
  • A proactive and flexible approach to problem solving, knowing when to use your initiative and when to seek advice from colleagues.
