Business Support Officer – Help Drive Growth in a Technical Laboratory Environment
Purpose and Scope of the Role
Tetra Tech is looking for a Business Support Officer to join our Manchester laboratory team, supporting customer enquiries, quotation activity and day-to-day commercial administration. You will be a key point of contact for existing and prospective customers, helping them access the right analytical services while ensuring quotations, sample media orders and follow-up activity are handled accurately and on time.
Working closely with laboratory colleagues, senior management and customers, you will help resolve enquiries, maintain strong relationships and identify opportunities to support repeat business and wider commercial growth. Occasional local sample collections using a company van may also be required.
Your Impact in this Position
In the short term, you will build knowledge of the laboratory’s analytical capabilities and become a trusted contact for customer enquiries and quotation support. As your confidence grows, you will help improve quotation conversion, support customer retention and contribute to better insight from financial and customer spending data.
Longer term, this role offers the opportunity to develop commercial awareness within a technical environment, broaden your understanding of laboratory operations and build a strong platform for progression within business support, client service or operational coordination.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
