Business Systems Analyst

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Business Systems Analyst to support and enhance loan origination, servicing, and related business applications. This role is responsible for ensuring the ongoing effectiveness, stability, and strategic development of these systems, their integrations, and the business processes they enable.

Acting as the recognised subject matter expert for assigned applications, the successful candidate will work across departments and with external vendors to provide user support, manage incidents and change requests, coordinate testing and releases, identify opportunities for improvement, maintain system documentation, and guide applications through their full lifecycle from implementation and optimisation to retirement or replacement.

Key Responsibilities

Application Support & System Management

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for troubleshooting, supporting, and maintaining loan origination, servicing, and related business applications, including associated integrations, interfaces, and connected services.
  • Provide timely technical and functional support to users across the organisation, ensuring minimal business disruption and effective resolution of incidents and service requests.
  • Monitor application health, performance, and usage, proactively identifying issues and opportunities for improvement.
  • Maintain application configuration, permissions, reference data, and system settings in accordance with business and regulatory requirements.
  • Document issues, resolutions, known workarounds, and best practices, maintaining a comprehensive knowledge base and support documentation.

Testing, Change & Release Management

  • Perform functional, regression, integration, and user acceptance testing for application enhancements, upgrades, fixes, and new functionality.
  • Define and document test scenarios, test cases, and expected outcomes, ensuring solutions meet business requirements and quality standards.
  • Validate defect resolutions and system improvements prior to production deployment.
  • Support change management activities, including impact assessments, release planning, deployment coordination, and post-implementation review.

Vendor & Stakeholder Management

  • Act as the key liaison between business stakeholders, technology teams, and external software vendors and service providers.
  • Coordinate and manage application-related incidents, enhancements, upgrades, and support requests with vendors and internal teams.
  • Build effective relationships with stakeholders to understand business needs and ensure systems continue to deliver value and support strategic objectives.

Application Lifecycle & Continuous Improvement

  • Maintain a thorough understanding of assigned applications, business processes, and supporting integrations, acting as the recognised subject matter expert.
  • Develop and maintain application roadmaps, recommending enhancements and new capabilities to improve operational effectiveness and user experience.
  • Analyse system performance, usage trends, and business processes to identify opportunities for optimisation, automation, and simplification.
  • Support application selection, implementation, upgrades, replacement initiatives, and decommissioning activities as required throughout the system lifecycle.
  • Ensure application documentation, configurations, and support processes remain current and aligned with business needs.

Documentation & Training

  • Create and maintain comprehensive application documentation, including user guides, process maps, support procedures, configuration records, and operating standards.
  • Deliver training, workshops, and knowledge-sharing sessions to improve user adoption, proficiency, and understanding of system capabilities.
  • Support the development of business process documentation and ensure knowledge is retained within the organisation.

Requirements

  • 3+ years or demonstrable experience in application support, business systems analyst, or application management or similar role.
  • Proven experience supporting and enhancing business-critical applications, preferably within financial services, lending, or another regulated environment.
  • Experience investigating and resolving application, integration, and data-related issues.
  • Experience with software testing methodologies, including functional, integration, regression, and user acceptance testing.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify root causes and recommend effective solutions.
  • Experience gathering, documenting, and translating business requirements into system changes and improvements.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively across departments and with external technology partners.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with ITIL principles, incident management, change management, and service management tools is advantageous.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of mortgage, secured loan, or consumer lending products and associated processes from origination through to servicing and completion.
  • Experience working within a regulated industry, particularly financial services.
  • Understanding of data structures, relational databases, and data analysis principles.
  • Ability to write and troubleshoot SQL queries for data investigation, reporting, and issue resolution.
  • Experience working with APIs, web services, and system integrations, including the ability to analyse requests and responses, troubleshoot issues, and support integration-related activities.
  • Experience managing or supporting application upgrades, implementations, or system migration projects.
  • Experience producing process maps, user documentation, and training materials.

This role has no direct people management responsibilities.

This role is not classified as a Certification Function under the Financial Conduct Authority's Senior Managers and Certification Regime (SM&CR).
