Salary: Grade 10 - £47,181 - £50,269
Location: Sheffield (hybrid working)
South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority is going through a significant period of digital change. We are modernising our technology, replacing legacy systems and changing how digital services support the organisation.
We are looking for an experienced Business Systems Manager to join our Digital and Technology Services team and add further capacity to our established Business Systems function.
This is a hands-on role working alongside our existing Business Systems Manager and wider DTS teams. You will take ownership of key systems and areas of work, helping us maintain strong day-to-day services while creating the capacity to deliver a significant programme of technology change.
You will join DTS at a point when we are investing in new platforms, strengthening our technical foundations and improving how our systems connect and support the organisation.

About The Role
You will work alongside our existing Business Systems Manager to manage and improve the corporate and business applications that colleagues across SYMCA rely on every day.
There is plenty to get involved in. Alongside running and improving existing services, you will help us modernise applications, strengthen integration, improve our use of data and reduce manual processes.
You will
- Take ownership of key business systems and areas of the application portfolio
- Work alongside the existing Business Systems Manager to provide additional leadership and capacity across the function
- Manage application performance, lifecycle, resilience and technical risk
- Work directly with services to understand problems and turn them into practical technology improvements
- Support and develop specialist colleagues responsible for our business applications
- Work with suppliers and technology partners and hold them to account for delivery and service
- Improve integration between systems and reduce manual processes and duplication
- Support better use of organisational data, reporting and insight
- Work closely with our Digital Platforms, Digital Delivery, Live Operations and Cyber Security teams
- Help improve application standards, governance and technical documentation
- Contribute to the wider modernisation of technology across SYMCA

About You
We are looking for someone who understands business applications and knows how to run and improve them.
You might already be a Business Systems Manager, Applications Manager or Applications Lead, or you may be ready to step into a broader management role.
You will bring
- Experience managing or leading business applications in a complex organisation
- A good understanding of application support, lifecycle management and service improvement
- Experience working with suppliers and technology partners
- Knowledge of integration, databases, data and reporting
- The ability to work effectively with technical teams and colleagues across the wider organisation
- Experience translating business problems into practical technology solutions
- The confidence to take ownership, make decisions and challenge where something could work better
- An understanding of security, information governance and good application management
You do not need to know every system we use on day one. We are interested in your ability to understand complex technology, solve problems, work well with others and improve how business systems are delivered.
