Description
The Opportunity
Due to continued growth, we are looking for an experienced Buyer to join our Procurement team at OCU Group.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with strong purchasing and supplier management experience who can take ownership of the procurement of goods and services across the business.
Working closely with internal stakeholders, suppliers, and the wider Procurement team, you will play a key role in ensuring the business secures the right products and services at the right price, while maintaining quality, availability, and supplier performance.
You’ll have the opportunity to build strong supplier relationships, negotiate commercial agreements, and identify opportunities to reduce costs and improve efficiency across the supply chain.
What You'll Do
- Manage the end-to-end procurement process for goods and services within your assigned categories.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, manufacturers, distributors, and service providers.
- Source new suppliers and identify alternative supply options to improve value and reduce supply chain risk.
- Lead negotiations with suppliers on pricing, terms, service levels, and commercial agreements.
- Work closely with internal stakeholders to understand requirements, demand, and future purchasing needs.
- Review quotations and supplier proposals to ensure the best commercial outcome for the business.
- Manage supplier performance, addressing issues relating to cost, quality, delivery, and service.
- Support the review and negotiation of supplier contracts and commercial terms.
- Identify opportunities for cost savings, process improvements, and increased efficiency.
- Monitor market conditions and supplier activity to identify potential risks and opportunities.
- Ensure procurement activity is completed in line with company policies and procedures.
- Work closely with Finance and Accounts Payable to support an efficient procure-to-pay process.
- Review purchasing and spend data to support commercial decision-making and cost control.
- Maintain accurate procurement and supplier records.

Essential
What you'll bring
- Previous experience working as a Buyer or within a procurement role.
- Strong experience managing suppliers and building effective commercial relationships.
- Experience negotiating pricing, terms, and commercial agreements.
- Strong commercial awareness with the ability to identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Experience managing the end-to-end purchasing and procurement process.
- Ability to work confidently with internal stakeholders across different areas of the business.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills.
- Good organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving ability.
- Confidence working with procurement systems and purchasing data.

Desirable
- Experience within Construction, Utilities, Energy, Infrastructure, or a similar industry.
- Experience purchasing Plant, Fleet, Materials, Equipment, or operational services.
- Experience managing supplier performance, KPIs, and SLAs.
- Knowledge of contracts, supplier terms, and commercial agreements.
- Experience using ERP or procurement systems.
- Experience analysing spend data and identifying procurement efficiencies.
- CIPS qualification or working towards CIPS.
