Company Description
Sontay are a market leader in providing sensing and peripheral devices to the building control and HVAC markets. Our team are experts in their field and have been providing a wide range of temperature, humidity and other building sensors for over 50 years.
Role Description
The Buyer role is a full-time hybrid position based in Edenbridge, with flexibility for some work from home. The Buyer will own various purchasing activities across a wide portfolio of products and components, ensuring the business has the right stock levels to feed manufacturing and the end customer. Day-to-day tasks include:
- Supply chain planning
- Requesting and comparing quotations
- Raising and tracking of purchase orders
- Expediting where needed
- Ensuring the MRP system is maintained accurately

- Monitoring supplier performance
- Managing inventory levels
- Supporting cost-saving initiatives
- Ensuring compliance with company policies and customer standards
Qualifications/Experience
- Minimum of 3 years experience in a purchasing role, ideally within manufacturing
- Strong skills in using ERP/MRP or other purchasing systems, with attention to data accuracy and documentation control
- Competence in analyzing costs, lead times, and inventory levels to support efficient and resilient supply chain performance
- Effective communication and relationship-building skills for collaborating with internal teams and external suppliers
- Organizational and time-management skills to handle multiple priorities, deadlines, and changing demand
- Understanding of basic contract terms, quality requirements, and compliance considerations in a manufacturing context
- Numeracy and proficiency with common office software (e.g., Excel, Word, Outlook) for reporting and analysis
- Relevant experience in procurement or supply chain; formal purchasing or supply chain qualifications (e.g., CIPS or equivalent) are an advantage
- Ability to work in a hybrid model, attending the Edenbridge site as required and maintaining productivity while working from home
