JOB DESCRIPTION – BUYER (based in Massachusetts, USA)
The Buyer owns purchasing execution for assigned categories, managing direct factory relationships in China, cost negotiations, purchase orders, and production timelines. This role requires established experience working with overseas manufacturers and a track record of driving margin through hands-on negotiation. The ideal candidate brings hard goods product development experience and is comfortable traveling internationally on a regular basis.
Buyers at this company are strategic thinkers who thrive in a fast-paced environment and enjoy solving problems proactively. This role requires regular international travel to China, approximately one week per quarter or more depending on business needs. Active passport required.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and grow direct factory relationships in China
- Negotiate pricing directly with overseas manufacturers to achieve target cost and margin objectives
- Manage the end-to-end purchase order lifecycle for assigned categories
- Collaborate with factories on hard goods product development from concept through production
- Review and approve samples, tooling, and artwork
- Track production timelines and critical path milestones
- Prepare margin analysis and purchasing reports
- Build strong cross-functional relationships with Sales, Studio, and Product
- Identify process improvements and efficiency opportunities

Core Skills & Qualifications
- 5+ years of buying experience with direct overseas manufacturing relationships
- Demonstrated hard goods product development experience, ideally in toys, consumer products, or similar categories
- Proven track record negotiating pricing, tooling, and production terms with Chinese manufacturers
- Mandarin a plus (not required)
- Advanced Excel and reporting capabilities
- Strong analytical skills and ownership mindset
- Ability to thrive in a deadline-driven environment
- Microsoft Office required; Microsoft NAV preferred
- Active passport required with willingness to travel internationally quarterly
