What to Expect

The McLaren Automotive Purchasing Department is an exciting yet demanding, fast paced and commercially driven environment.

The successful candidate will be working as part of a high performing and agile team, with direct report into the Purchasing Manager. Cross functional engagement with our Engineering, Quality, Production and Legal Teams is vital for successful delivery and performance.

What You'll Do

  • Life-cycle responsibility delivering high quality, value for money components into McLaren.
  • Accountability for cost and budget management for multi-million pound direct-spend portfolios.
  • New supplier identification and introduction into McLaren.
  • Deliver commodity strategy and nomination approvals in line with business requirements aligned with the organisation’s key stakeholders.
  • Reference and awareness of technology and quality roadmaps within scope.
  • Negotiate, execute and monitor contractual agreements with suppliers.
  • Deliver challenging annual cost down targets through commercial and VA/VE methods.
  • Work cross-functionally with all departments to drive core quality, cost principles and process.
  • Develop strong, long-term relationships with Suppliers.
  • Managed supplier performance on cost, quality and on time delivery.

  • Degree preferred but not essential.
  • A strong, clear and confident communicator.
  • Ability to work to deadlines and demands.
  • Keen attention to accuracy and detail.
  • Proven commercial background / strong negotiator.
  • Previous manufacturing / automotive experience preferred but not essential.
  • Proven supply chain experience in dealing with both high and low value organisations.
  • Enthusiastic and self-motivated to work autonomously.
  • Experience in cost engineering, raw material and tooling buying would be advantageous.
