Buyer / Project Support - Bespoke Joinery Kent £30,000 - £40,000 + Benefits

Our client is a well-established bespoke joinery and interior fit out manufacturer delivering high quality projects across the commercial, residential and hospitality sectors. Due to continued growth, they are looking to appoint a Purchaser / Project Support professional to join their team in Kent.

This is a varied and rewarding position combining purchasing, supplier management, estimating support and project coordination. Working closely with the Commercial Director, Estimating Team and Project Managers, you will play a key role in ensuring materials, components and outsourced works are sourced competitively and delivered on time to support successful project delivery.

The Role

Purchasing & Estimating Support

  • Manage the purchasing of project specific materials, components, outsourced items and general stock.
  • Obtain competitive quotations for materials, specialist components and outsourced works to support estimating activities.
  • Monitor project programmes and approval schedules to ensure materials are ordered in time to meet production requirements.
  • Source high quality materials and components that meet specification, programme and quality requirements.
  • Negotiate pricing, lead times and commercial terms with suppliers.
  • Develop and maintain strong supplier relationships whilst identifying alternative suppliers where beneficial.
  • Maintain supplier and material libraries, ensuring pricing, lead times and specifications remain up to date.

Deliveries, Stock & Cost Control

  • Coordinate incoming deliveries and ensure materials are checked for quantity, quality and condition.
  • Ensure delivery documentation is accurately completed and costs correctly allocated to projects and work orders.
  • Work with department heads to monitor stock requirements and maintain appropriate stock levels.
  • Support quarterly stocktakes and investigate discrepancies.
  • Report shortages, delays, damaged goods or cost variations that may impact project delivery.

Project Support

  • Support Project Managers with the coordination and delivery of multiple projects.
  • Prepare and maintain purchasing trackers, monitoring order status, costs, lead times and delivery dates.
  • Coordinate project sampling requirements, sourcing materials, finishes and specialist components.
  • Manage the sample process through the workshop, ensuring samples are produced and issued in line with project requirements.
  • Maintain sample trackers and monitor approvals.
  • Provide regular purchasing, delivery and sampling updates to Project Managers and department heads.
  • Maintain accurate purchasing, supplier and project records.
  • Support company health and safety administration requirements.
  • Carry out other reasonable duties in line with the responsibilities of the role.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years' purchasing experience, ideally within joinery, fit out, interiors or manufacturing.
  • Strong commercial awareness and supplier negotiation skills.
  • Excellent organisational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities within a fast paced environment.
  • Strong IT skills including Excel and purchasing or production management systems.
  • Excellent communication and relationship building skills.
