Buying Assistant (Hair Category)
Head Office, Outskirts of Brighton (BN1 8AP) – please note this is a fully office based role
Salary: circa £26,000.00 per annum
Established over 70 years ago, at Capital (Hair & Beauty) Ltd we are a family business with over 60 stores throughout the UK and Ireland; along with a very successful website this makes us the largest independent wholesale supplier to the professional hair & beauty industry in the UK. Supplying cutting edge brands such as L’Oréal, Wella, Goldwell, Schwarzkopf, K18 and many more, makes us a one stop shop for the industry.
Role Profile
We’re seeking an enthusiastic Buying/Category Assistant to join our small friendly team at our Head Office, which is based just on the outskirts of Brighton. Reporting to the Category Manager (Hair) you’ll be working within the commercial team, supporting the Category Manager with planning, assortment management, supplier relations, and understanding customer behaviour to drive category growth.

Key Duties:
- Support the Category Manager in deciding which products to carry within the category, considering customer needs, market demand, and profitability.
- Allocate shelf space efficiently, prioritizing fast-moving products and highlighting new or trending items.
- Responsibility for certain vendors within the category, running and placing orders and maintaining stock levels.
- Collaborate with marketing to create visual plans for how products should be displayed on the shelves to maximize visibility and sales.
- Assist in gathering pricing information and competitor data to support the Category Manager in reviewing product prices.
- Support the Category Manager by analysing sales data, competitor activities, and consumer behaviour to understand market dynamics and identify areas for improvement.

To be successful in the role you will have:
- Good communication skills
- Good analytical skills
- Administration experience
- Experience in buying or merchandising.
- Computer literacy including Word & Excel
- Knowledge of Hair & Beauty products (not essential)
