We have an exciting opportunity for a Buying Manager to join a commercial team with a fast-paced retail business who have hundreds of stores across the UK. You will be responsible for sourcing exceptional products for their fresh food ranges. There will be a mix of remote and office working, with the job holder likely to be spending 3 days per week in their West Midlands based offices and rest working from home.

About the job

You will take a lead role in the buying and sourcing strategy for the Fresh Food ranges, including produce, protein and more. You will lead on ranging and assortment decisions, as well as managing pricing, promotions and cost prices to optimise profitability and deliver a best in class fresh food offer. You will build and nurture relationships with a wide variety of suppliers as well as work in partnership with your colleagues in other parts of the business such as food technology and supply chain.

About the person

With Buying / Trading experience in the FMCG Retail sector, you will have complete freedom and autonomy to manage your category from top to bottom and have a proven track record of building strong relationships with suppliers and implementing the category strategy to maximise sales. You will have ultimate accountability for margin and profitability, whilst ensuring that the business stays one step ahead of their competitors, sets retail trends and meets consumer needs. This will be underpinned by your outstanding negotiation skills along with strong commercial acumen.
