About The Role
We are seeking a talented Software Engineer to join Leonardo's Integrated Sensors & Protection line of business. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to a variety of defense projects, focusing on developing innovative software solutions that enhance sensor capabilities and protection systems. You will be an integral part of a dynamic team of world-class engineers, collaborating to create market-leading products that meet the rigorous standards of the defense industry. The position involves engaging in all phases of the software development lifecycle, from requirements gathering and design to implementation, testing, and integration. While direct industry experience is not mandatory, a strong foundation in software development and a willingness to learn are essential. This role is ideal for individuals passionate about technology, eager to develop new skills, and motivated by the prospect of working on impactful defense projects that contribute to national security and technological advancement.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a solid background in software development, particularly in C++. Experience with C# application development, networking, and cross-platform application development on Windows and Linux is advantageous. Familiarity with software lifecycle processes, including requirements management, design, testing, and integration, is important. Knowledge of configuration management tools such as git, and software design methodologies like SysML or UML, will be beneficial. Candidates with experience in developing test cases and procedures, as well as knowledge of Docker, virtual machines, and Continuous Integration (CI) tools like Jenkins, will stand out. An understanding of software development standards such as RTCA 178C and coding standards like AUTOSAR or MISRA C/C++ is desirable but not essential. The most critical attribute is a positive attitude, a willingness to learn, and a passion for technological innovation.
Responsibilities
As a Software Engineer at Leonardo, your responsibilities will include:
- Designing, developing, and maintaining high-quality software solutions tailored to defense applications.
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams to gather requirements, define specifications, and develop system architectures.
- Implementing software modules in C++ and other relevant languages, ensuring robustness, efficiency, and security.
- Participating in code reviews, testing, and debugging to ensure software reliability and performance.
- Integrating software components with hardware systems and conducting comprehensive system testing.
- Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives by adopting best practices and innovative development techniques.
- Maintaining documentation and adhering to industry standards and company policies throughout the development process.
- Supporting the deployment and operational phases of software products, including troubleshooting and updates.
- Engaging in ongoing professional development to stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends.
