About The Role
We are seeking a talented Software Engineer to join Leonardo's dynamic team, contributing to some of the most advanced defence and aerospace projects in the UK. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work on cutting-edge programmes such as the Eurofighter Typhoon, Saab Gripen, and the upcoming 6th generation fighter jet platform, Tempest. As part of an agile team comprising 7-10 engineers, you will play a pivotal role in designing, developing, testing, and implementing software solutions that underpin the nation's air defence capabilities for decades to come. You will collaborate closely with your colleagues to develop innovative solutions, contribute to project planning, and take ownership of your deliverables, ensuring the highest standards of quality and performance.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in software development within regulated environments, with proven experience in C++ programming. Familiarity with agile development methodologies and source control tools such as Git is essential. Candidates should demonstrate excellent collaboration skills, problem-solving abilities, and the capacity to develop solutions from detailed requirements. Additional desirable qualifications include experience with signal processing, embedded systems, static analysis tools, and component-based development. Knowledge of CMake, Atlassian toolsets, and working on complex codebases will be advantageous. While a comprehensive skill set is preferred, a positive attitude and willingness to learn are equally important, and we encourage applications from individuals with diverse backgrounds and experience levels.
Responsibilities
- Architecting, designing, and implementing software modules that meet project specifications.
- Participating in agile ceremonies, contributing to planning activities, and ensuring timely delivery of high-quality software.
- Developing and maintaining robust, efficient, and scalable code.
- Debugging, diagnosing, and resolving software issues using industry-standard tools.
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams to understand system requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
- Supporting integration and testing activities.
- Contributing to documentation.
- Adhering to security and compliance standards throughout the development lifecycle.
