Job Description
Due to significant growth across our Transmission & Distribution Ltd business, we're looking for a new or experienced EHV Cables Construction Manager to support our growing workload across underground cables (UGC). This opportunity is a site-based position, we have works issued under various frameworks supporting various clients which means the position covers various locations in Scotland. You will need to be flexible in your work location as you will be away from home for periods of time and will travel and work across Scotland.
The Role
Supporting the project manager, you will supervise and deliver key packages of cabling construction projects. You will assist in the production of construction plans and coordinate the engineering support team. You will also be responsible for the procurement of construction materials and specialist subcontracts for the successful delivery of projects. You will have substantial experience of managing sites and field-based staff on cable or substation projects and underground cabling works. Technical expertise of the civil, cable and/or electrical aspects of cabling projects is key. Experience in cable installation and associated activities i.e., jointing and testing requirements is essential as is previous working knowledge of distribution network operators. Individuals who can demonstrate their interest in developing their skillset in underground cables and who are enthusiastic about progressing their career within the Transmission and Distribution sector are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities for Internal Candidates
Typical Responsibilities
- Supervise and deliver key packages of construction projects
- Assist in the production of construction plans, coordination of the Engineering support team, procurement of construction materials and specialist subcontracts & related activities necessary for the successful delivery of projects
- Support the Site Manager & Project Manager and lead core delivery teams
- Ensure technical solutions delivered on site are in line with Engineering’s requirements and management systems
- Manage and coordinate all street works permits in line with required dates
- Manage the customer relationship during tender and delivery, including change and decision making to effectively manage expectations
- Leadership of Safety Shield Initiatives and drive for continuous improvement across SHESQ within projects
- Cooperate in all matters pertaining to health and safety to enable UI Transmission & Distribution Ltd to conduct and enhance its legal duties and requirements

Expected
- Minimum qualification to International Standard Classification of Education (ISCED) Level 5 (technical diploma/ apprenticeship) or equivalent combination of qualifications and experience
- Previous experience of managing sites and field-based staff on Cable or substation projects and underground cabling works
- Technical expertise of the civil, cable and/or electrical aspects of cabling projects
- Experienced in cable installation and associated activities i.e., jointing and testing requirements
- Previous experience of working for distribution network operators
- Ability to understand and deliver works in line with project schedule, including forecasting resource and materials and providing updates on programme deliverables
- Previous experience in the management of sub-contractors and the recording of measurement details to enable financial settlement
- Previous experience of supervising Engineering Support teams on projects through all phases of design, construction, commissioning & close out
- Experienced in coordinating and controlling team delivery in accordance with agreed cost, schedule & change without compromising Safety Health Environment & Quality (SHEQ) standards
- Experience in managing excavation works, in both public highway and remote working
- Good knowledge of street works, and Local Authorities permit requirements
- Accredited Safety Training, Site Supervision Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS) as a minimum
- Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS)
- Possess a recognised safety qualification such as Institute of Occupational Safety & Health (IOSH) or National Examination Board of Occupational Safety & Health (NEBOSH)
- Full UK Driving License
- Right to Work in the UK

- Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS)
- Scottish Southern Electricity (SSE) System Authorisations
