Join Roc Technologies
At Roc Technologies, we deliver business-critical IT infrastructure and transformation services to some of the UK's most secure and demanding environments. As we continue to grow, we are looking for an experienced Cabling Designer & Planner to become the technical authority for structured cabling solutions across our pre-sales and delivery functions.
This is an exciting opportunity for a cabling professional who combines technical expertise, commercial awareness, and strong stakeholder engagement skills. You'll play a key role in shaping customer solutions, producing accurate estimates, and ensuring a seamless transition from pre-sales to project delivery.
The Role
As the primary subject matter expert for cabling design and planning activities, you'll lead the technical assessment and estimation of structured cabling, fibre optic, and passive infrastructure projects within secure customer environments.
Working closely with Solution Architects, Project Managers, Engineers, and Sales teams, you'll develop accurate costings, Bills of Materials, and delivery plans while helping customers understand the value and impact of proposed solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce accurate estimates, forecasts, Bills of Materials and pricing summaries for infrastructure projects.
- Analyse customer requirements, technical specifications, drawings, and Statements of Work.
- Conduct site surveys and customer visits to support solution development and bid activities.
- Develop labour, material, equipment, subcontractor, and project cost models.
- Review subcontractor quotations and incorporate them into commercial proposals.
- Provide technical input into cabling and containment designs, ensuring compliance with relevant industry standards.
- Support bid responses, tenders, and customer presentations.
- Act as the technical bridge between Pre-Sales and Delivery, ensuring successful project handovers.
- Support projects delivered within highly secure government, defence, and regulated environments.
- Continually identify opportunities to improve processes, innovation, automation, and customer outcomes.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
