Role
We are looking for a motivated, practical CAD engineer / technician to join our Photonics business in Glasgow to drive improvements and best practice in semiconductor device design and wafer layout.

Responsibilities
- Primary point of contact for all CAD design in the company.
- Work closely with the development and engineering teams to improve and develop CAD layout capabilities and design methodologies.
- Develop and maintain automated scripting software to streamline device design and wafer layout processes.
- Responsible for the design and procurement of photolithography masks used in semiconductor wafer manufacturing.
- Provide mechanical and/or structural CAD design support the operations team and facilities expansion activities.
- Maintain CAD libraries, templates, documentation and revision control systems.
Experience
- A recognised qualification in CAD or a degree in Engineering, Computer Science or a related technical discipline.
- Experience with FEM/simulation packages such as COMSOL / PhotonDesign desirable but not essential.
- Ideally, a minimum of 2 years experience with CAD software such as AutoCAD, L-Edit, K-layout or GDS Factory.
- Coding experience, e.g. Python or C++, JavaScript, or similar, is highly desirable. Experience in scripting for CAD design is also desirable.
- Experience delivering software projects through the careful use of agentic AI tools such as Claude code is desirable.
- An understanding of software development best practices such as version control, continuous integration and continuous deployment is preferred.
- Familiarity with software version control systems such as Git is highly desirable.
- Experience in CAD for semiconductor device design and/or wafer layout is desirable but not essential.
