CAD Engineer – PCB Design / Altium / RF
Location: Reading, UK
Work Model: Hybrid – 4 days per week in the office

Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced CAD Engineer / PCB Design Engineer with strong expertise in Altium Designer and a solid background in RF electronics design. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, development, and optimisation of complex PCB assemblies, working closely with hardware, RF, and engineering teams to deliver high-quality designs for advanced 4G/5G communication and wireless technologies. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced PCB design professional who has hands-on Altium experience and understands the challenges associated with high-frequency and RF PCB design.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop complex PCB layouts using Altium Designer.
- Translate schematics and engineering requirements into robust, manufacturable PCB designs.
- Work on PCB designs supporting RF, 4G, and 5G communication technologies.
- Apply best practices for high-speed, high-frequency, and RF PCB layout.
- Work closely with RF, hardware, mechanical, and manufacturing engineers throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Develop and maintain PCB libraries, footprints, components, and design rules within Altium.
- Perform design reviews and identify potential layout, signal integrity, and manufacturability issues.
- Support PCB design optimisation for performance, reliability, and manufacturability.
- Ensure designs comply with relevant engineering, manufacturing, and quality standards.
- Prepare and maintain PCB design documentation, manufacturing outputs, and design files.
- Support prototype builds, testing, troubleshooting, and design iterations.
- Liaise with PCB manufacturers and suppliers where required.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of PCB design processes and engineering standards.

Key Skills & Experience
- 6+ years of professional experience in PCB design / CAD engineering.
- Strong hands-on experience with Altium Designer.
- Proven experience designing RF / high-frequency PCB layouts.
- Experience working with 4G / 5G wireless or telecommunications technologies.
- Strong understanding of PCB design principles, stack-ups, routing, and signal integrity.
- Experience with schematic capture and PCB layout.
- Good understanding of component selection, footprints, and PCB libraries.
- Experience producing manufacturing documentation and outputs.
- Understanding of Design for Manufacture (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles.
- Ability to work collaboratively with hardware, RF, and other engineering disciplines.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work to engineering specifications and deadlines.

Desirable Experience
- Experience working on telecommunications, wireless communications, or RF products.
- Experience with complex multi-layer PCB designs.
- Knowledge of high-speed digital design and signal integrity.
- Experience with RF/microwave PCB layout considerations.
- Experience supporting products based on 4G/5G technologies.
- Experience working with contract manufacturers and PCB fabrication/assembly partners.
What We're Looking For
We are particularly interested in candidates who combine:
- Altium Designer + PCB Design + RF Design + 4G/5G / Telecommunications experience.
- The role requires someone who is comfortable taking ownership of PCB design activities and working closely with wider engineering teams from initial design through to prototype and production.
Working Arrangement
This is a permanent, full-time position based in Reading, UK, with a hybrid working model requiring 4 days per week from the office.
