Durham Lifting delivers tensile and compression load testing up to 3000 tonnes, supporting civil engineering, offshore, crane, and structural projects. The company also offers lifting equipment sales and hire, LOLER inspection, repair, refurbishment, crane servicing and upgrades, and specialist wire rope services. Through ongoing investment in equipment, facilities, and expertise, Durham Lifting remains at the forefront of certified, safety-focused lifting engineering and load testing services in the UK.
Role Description
The CAD Technician / 3D Modeller is a full-time, on-site role based at Durham Lifting’s facilities in Middlesbrough. This role involves producing accurate 2D drawings and 3D models for bespoke lifting systems, modular spreader beams, and associated structures using industry-standard CAD software. The individual will interpret engineering sketches and specifications, prepare detailed fabrication and assembly drawings, and update documentation in line with project changes and quality standards.

- Collaborating with engineers and project managers
- Supporting design reviews
- Maintaining drawing registers
- Ensuring designs align with relevant standards and statutory compliance requirements
- Preparing visuals for client proposals
- Assisting with technical documentation
- Coordinating with workshop and testing teams to resolve design queries
Qualifications
- Technical Support: Ability to provide effective support for engineering, design, and production teams, including resolving CAD-related queries and assisting with documentation.
- Computer Maintenance and Troubleshooting: Competence to ensure CAD workstations, software, and peripherals operate reliably and efficiently.
- Computer Repair and Operating Systems: Skills sufficient to manage basic hardware/software issues or liaise effectively with IT support.
- CAD and 3D Modelling Software: Proficiency with software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar) and experience creating fabrication and assembly drawings.
- Engineering Principles: Understanding of engineering principles, structural steelwork, or lifting equipment design, with the ability to interpret technical specifications and standards.
- Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a safety-focused industrial environment.
- Communication Skills: Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively on-site with cross-functional teams in design, testing, and operations.
- Relevant Qualification: Relevant technical qualification in engineering, CAD design, or a related discipline; experience in heavy industry, lifting engineering, or load testing is an advantage.
