Where will you be working?
At M Group Energy, we’re enabling the energy essential to support our lives.
We provide an end-to-end service, delivering solutions in electricity transmission, distribution, renewable energy, EV, metering and home decarbonisation.
This role will be within our Design team. We design, build and commission substations at voltages up to and including 400kV. Our teams construct and maintain transmission lines and substations, ensuring the efficient and reliable delivery of electricity.
What will you be doing?
Our Design team are looking for a CAD Technician to join the team on a hybrid basis in our Sutton office. This role provides essential CAD and technical support to our teams, producing accurate, high-quality technical drawings and documentation to support project delivery. You'll create and maintain CAD drawings, update designs as projects evolve, and assist with compiling design packages and technical information.

CAD Drawing Production
- Prepare, update and edit CAD drawings, sketches, layouts and technical details using AutoCAD or similar CAD platforms.
- Develop clear, accurate and well structured drawings including plans, elevations, sections, details, schedules and presentation sheets.
- Follow established drawing conventions, templates, numbering standards, file naming protocols and version control procedures.
- Ensure all drawings are prepared to required quality standards to support engineering design and project documentation.
Technical Support to Engineers and Designers
- Support engineers, designers and other technical specialists by preparing CAD content and updating drawings as design evolves.
- Gather, organise and input technical data used for calculations, design assessments or digital models.
- Assist in compiling complete and correctly formatted design packages for internal review or external issue.
Site and Survey Support
- Accurately transfer survey information into CAD formats to support design development and verification.
- Maintain clear records of survey related data for use by engineers and project teams.
Collaboration and Coordination
- Work collaboratively with Design Technicians, CAD specialists, engineers, and project teams to ensure coordinated design deliverables.
- Help resolve drawing or information inconsistencies by liaising proactively with relevant team members.
- Maintain clear communication regarding drawing requirements, technical limitations and updates.

Quality and Compliance
- Ensure all CAD work complies with internal quality standards, project requirements, safety processes and technical regulations.
- Apply strong document control practices for storing, organising, issuing and revising drawings.
- Support assurance activities through accurate preparation of CAD materials for checks, reviews and audits.
What You’ll Bring
- A basic understanding of CAD (Autocad, Microstation etc) software and general drawing presentation.
- Ability to produce accurate drawings, sketches and layouts with minimal supervision.
- Awareness of engineering design processes, drawing standards and quality requirements.
- Strong organisational skills with ability to manage multiple drawing tasks concurrently.
- To be inquisitive with the ability to self-learn new software, although training on industry specific software will be provided.
- Strong work ethic with a good eye for detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work on own initiative, but also willing to ask for help whenever needed.
