CAD Technician

Balmoral Tanks Ltd is a leading European engineering design and manufacturing company. Following significant investment in both our people and facilities, we now offer what is believed to be the most comprehensive single-source range of tank products in the EU. The Llantrisant facility plays a key role in delivering innovative storage tank solutions to customers across the UK and overseas.

As a CAD Technician, you will be responsible for producing high-quality assembly, detail, and installation drawings for Balmoral's range of tank products. Using Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD, you will work closely with customers and internal teams to develop practical, cost-effective solutions that meet both technical requirements and project budgets.

This is a varied and customer-focused role, offering daily interaction with clients and the opportunity to contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance quality, efficiency, and customer satisfaction.

What you'll be doing

  • Produce general arrangement (GA), production, detail, and installation drawings using AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor
  • Work directly with customers to develop project solutions that meet their requirements and budget expectations
  • Create drawings and specifications that support Contracts, Projects, and Production teams in delivering successful outcomes
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives aimed at reducing costs and improving quality
  • Deliver drawing packages to agreed timescales and proactively communicate any potential delays
  • Monitor and advise on project budget utilisation
  • Accurately record project time through timesheets
  • Work in accordance with company Health & Safety procedures and policies at all times

What we're looking for

Qualifications (Required)

  • A Levels, HNC, HND, or equivalent in an Engineering or Design discipline
  • Knowledge of 2D and 3D modelling and drawing software

Qualifications (Desirable)

  • Degree in Engineering or Design
  • Experience using Autodesk Inventor and Vault
  • Knowledge of draughting standards such as BS8888
  • Familiarity with sectional or modular storage tanks

Skills & Experience

  • At least 2 years' CAD experience (experience gained through education is acceptable)
  • Experience within a manufacturing or fabrication environment is advantageous
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings
  • Strong organisational, planning, and decision-making skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Commercial awareness and a proactive, problem-solving mindset
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Office applications and engineering software packages
