The Role
GB Controls is seeking a focused CAD Technician / Estimator to join our engineering department. Reporting directly to the Engineering Manager, you will play a vital role in the pre-production phase, turning client concepts into technical realities and accurate commercial bids.
Key Responsibilities
- 2D Design & Draughting: Produce high-quality 2D electrical schematics, control circuit diagrams, and panel layouts.
- Software Application: Use WSCAD as the primary design tool (experience in EPLAN is also highly valued).
- Cost Estimation: Work closely with the Engineering Manager to review tender documents and produce precise material and labour estimates.
- Technical Reporting: Maintain accurate project documentation and update the Engineering Manager on design progress and budget tracking.
- Supplier Coordination: Source components and obtain updated pricing to ensure estimates remain competitive and accurate.

About You
You should be a meticulous professional with at least 3 years experience in electrical systems and a preference for the technical/commercial side of engineering.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Software Proficiency: Strong experience in WSCAD is preferred, though we welcome applicants with EPLAN experience who are willing to adapt.
- Electrical Background: A solid understanding of electrical control systems, components, and wiring logic.
- Analytical Estimating: Proven ability to break down a technical project into a detailed Bill of Materials (BOM) with associated costs.
- Communication: Ability to report clearly to management and collaborate with the wider engineering team.
