About The Role
Utilities CAD Technician (PAS 128 / Asset Protection)
📍 Lower Thames Crossing, Essex (RM16 5UZ)
Join Balfour Beatty Power T&D and play a key role in one of the UK's most significant infrastructure projects.
We are looking for a Utilities CAD Technician (PAS 128 / Asset Protection) to support the delivery of the Lower Thames Crossing project. This is an exciting opportunity to work within a highly collaborative team, ensuring the production and coordination of high-quality BIM and CAD information that supports critical asset protection and utility management activities.
What you'll be doing
- Produce high accuracy 2D/3D utility plans, cross-sections, and detailed utilities PAS128 drawings from survey data and 3D models.
- Take full ownership of the Utilities Master Model (LTC), ensuring it remains the "single source of truth" for the project.
- Interpolate Trial holes, point-clouds, As-builts and GPR depth slices to accurately plot utility positions, depths, and confidence levels.
- Ensure precise overlay of utility data onto Topographical Surveys, maintaining strict horizontal/vertical tolerances across LTC grid and OS National Grid datums.
- Produce specialized 2D/3D drawings for Permits to Dig and GS6 (Overhead Powerline) permits.
- Support the Asset Protection team in planning methodologies, processes, and providing safe, workable utility works designs.
- Ensure all designs are coordinated with MEP and include all temporary arrangements and interfaces.
- Manage BIM/CAD data within ProjectWise CONNECT Edition, ensuring strict adherence to CAD standards and quality control.
- Coordinate with delivery and design teams to identify and resolve clashes, providing workable solutions for site constraints.
- Report to the Survey Manager and provide administrative assistance to the Asset Protection Surveying team as required.
- Assist in training of new designers and/or trainees.
- Creation of site packages
- Creation of final record packages

Who we're looking for
- Proven experience as a CAD Technician within Utilities, Civil Engineering, or Surveying. (Experience in related disciplines will be considered).
- Demonstrable experience in 3D modeling and 2D drafting specifically for underground services
- Understanding of CAD Packages
- Advanced skills in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, and ProjectWise CONNECT. (Experience with AECOsim is a bonus).
- Experience working with, editing, and loading to databases is highly advantageous.
- Fluent in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Awareness of applicable Highways Standards and the PAS 128:2022 specification.
- A strong work ethic with a proactive enthusiasm for learning, developing new workflows, and sharing technical knowledge with the wider team
