CAD Technician

We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent CAD Technician to join our Amey Consulting Structures team in Scotland. We have design hubs in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Motherwell, Perth, and Aberdeen together with additional office space in Dumfries, Ayr, Dundee, Nairn, and Huntly.

Our Amey Consulting Scotland Team are involved in designing some of the largest civil engineering and associated infrastructure projects across Scotland with cumulative values in excess of £1bn.

Amey manages both the Southwest and Northeast Trunk Road Network Management contracts, with the Southwest being awarded in 2020 and the Northeast in 2022. These are 8-year contracts, extendable up to 12 years. In addition to these long-term contracts, we also have a diverse portfolio of major roads, bridges, and transportation and civil design projects with Transport Scotland, Local Authorities, and established contractors across the country.

These long-term contracts provide excellent opportunities for technical, engineering, and professional design staff at all stages of their careers to be involved in some of the most exciting and challenging engineering projects associated with Scotland’s arterial road network.

As a Technician, you will play an important part in the design of sustainable bridges and civil engineering structures. You will be part of a dedicated design engineering team taking schemes from inception through design to construction and maintenance.

The standard hours of work are 40 hours per week.

You will be responsible for:

  • Producing accurate, high-quality models, drawings, & schedules for bridges and civil structures
  • Supporting the team to develop practical, sustainable design solutions
  • Compliance with BIM standards
  • Contributing to the improvement of company CAD and BIM procedures
  • Performing the role of CAD Manager when required
  • Mentoring and developing junior members of the team

What we want from you

  • HNC / HND, or equivalent in a relevant discipline
  • Demonstrable experience as a CAD technician on structures projects
  • Strong team working skills
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision
  • Client-focused approach to service delivery

Desirable:

  • Experience in the road and / or water sectors
  • 3D modelling experience with software such as Revit, Infraworks, or Civils 3D
  • Knowledge of document management systems such as Projectwise
